Phazor, this is really a fantastic job.

I am planning to try it with a fresh installation
on an "oldish" Dell precision 390.
My question is whether I have a better chance using
a non trial version of windows 7 enterprise rather than
the evaluation version which is currently available.
And, if so, can a non trial version be found somewhere ?
Or should I forget enterprise and go for Pro ?

Thanks, appreciated, but the ones you really have to thank are ZWT who made the actual KMS Server Emu.

I merely wrapped the whole thing into an exe and gave it a menu for easier use. :)

The EVAL activates fine here so it shouldnt make a difference. Apparently it is exactly the same thing as the non-EVAL, except for that 'auto-shutdown' file (which of course wont be used when its activated) and the EVAL PKey thats compiled into the install.wim...

I really wish i could help you tuvi but i really have no idea what to tell you.

All i can tell you is that it works fine here on both Pro and Enterprise. Sometimes i need to repeat the activation request but after 2-4 tries it usually activates.

May well be that it is some sort of unicode issue. Although for some reason i believe its probably something else.

No, even if someone were stupid enough to try it on a non-supported edition it still wont change the installed product key since the script checks what Edition is installed and sets a key only if it finds one of the supported editions. If no supported edition is found then the slmgr -ipk command will have no argument (meaning no key to install) so all that will happen is that slmgr pops up an error, telling the user that no key was specified.

    No can do.

Like i said, the key insertion is based on edition-detection, and since Vista (at least to my knowledge) uses the same ID strings there would be a conflict since the app could not distinct between say a Vista Enterprise and a Win7 Enterprise.

The only thing i could do is make a dedicated one for Vista or try to find a way that makes the above mentioned distinction possible and then use that instead of the method im using now. But to be honest this is way more than i ever planned to do. I already got kind of carried away, and i made 3.1 only because i noticed that a couple of editions were missing. Besides, i dont think very many people would use Vista/VistaServer when they can use Win7/Win7Server instead so in the end it might not even be worth the effort.

But thanks for the suggestions anyway, i like teamwork and its good to see when people are thinking along...:)

Tuvi, on your Hebrew machine, could you try this from an admin CMD:

    (With VLK PKey installed)

    • slmgr -ckhc

    • slmgr -ckms

    • reboot

    • slmgr -skms 127.0.0.1

    • run KMS Server

    • slmgr -ato

If necessary repeat -ato a couple of times. (Just use the exe.) I would like to know if that fixes your problem...

How to distinct Vista from 7?
Something like if exist %systemroot%\system32\licensing it's 6.0, if exist %systemroot%\system32\spp it's 6.1, or maybe just straightly through buildnumber somehow?

it did not fix my problem (followed your instructions exactly and ran /ato 5 times).
actually I have already try it (with the DNS cach enabled/disabled).
I noticed it takes some long time (more than 3 minutes) untill the keygen deliever the activation code.
but really thank you that you are trying to help..

this works on everything. If it doesn't work it is your machine or the ISOs you are using to install Windows or your network. It is a KMS server so you have to have the machine be able to communicate with a KMS server if it doesn't then you won't be able to activate duh. I have tried it on 4-5 physical boxes, and 5 different types of VMs, all using different OSes from Vista to 7 to R2. Worked in all of them. I don't have some stupid POS warez version of windows that was downloaded off bittorrent or some other s**t. It is a real disk from MS. If your hashes don't match the MD5s of the legit disks then don't expect them to work because it probably has some dumb activator s**t built in.

Also try this if it doesn't work:

Would you try the below steps? It will force Windows 7 to recreate (and repopulate) it's Licensing Store which I believe will correct the Invalid Data error you are receiveing.

    1) Click Start button.
    2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
    3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
    4) Type: net stop sppsvc (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection servive may not be running, this is ok.
    5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
    6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    8) Type: net start sppsvc
    9) Type: slui.exe
    10) After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear. You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may occur automatically.

Hei Phazor, why shouldn't you start a new thread about it and make it like the others as Hazar or Daz or Om Dhar do for their own tools.......... so it can be easy to point out

    No, that wouldnt seem right.

I agree that a seperate thread would probably make it easier to find and thus maybe even introduce it to people who didnt read this thread, but you must not forget that the actual KMS Server Emu, (without which this whole thing would be 100% worthless), is not my work and the last thing i want is to make it look like i wanted thanks and/or credit for something which is really somebody elses work as that would be pretty respectless and low. The KMS is ZWTs work. All i really did was enhancing and automating what was already there so it can be used via a simple menu without having to find the right key and typing and re-typing a lot of stuff...

(And even this is already way more than i initially wanted to do. Actually i only wanted to make a simple .bat that auto-picks the right key and automates the rest of the process. Since an executable would be even easier to use i decided to make one (first and foremost for myself, but i shared it) and i think thats what i should leave it at. If you want to tell others about it you are of course free to do so but i myself prefer not to carry this beyond this thread...)

    Hi guys,
I've been trying to activate my Win7 Ent against the VM KMS server and I get an error saying something about the KMS server having insufficient activation counts. I checked the KMS status and it it says the Current Count = 0, the Requests for both licensed and unlicensed are both 0 and the Total requests received is at 32. I've double checked the timezones and made sure there were no connectivity issues between KMS and my machine. Have any of you guys seen this before?

Minor cosmetic issue. If I run the KMS server before I run your tool and then perform the activation process I get:

    Failed to RpcServerUseProtseqEp!
Error is: RpcServerUseProtseqEp! failed with error 0: The operation completed successfully.
    KMS Server started and ready.
    Ended listening

Still works..so just a cosmetic issue. I'd also suggest on your main screen that you change the wording so that it says something like "KMS Activator for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 volume licenses."

Thanks for your efforts, Phazor. I gave up on the KMS VM after running into a brick wall with KMSManager. I tested yours in a Win7 Ent VM and on another local machine, both took only a couple seconds and the end result was flawless. Kudos to you and ZWT!

I just want to add my thanks to Phazor (and ZWT if they are watching) for sharing this [Rep +1]. Tested and working like the proverbial charm on a real installation of Win7 Enterprise installed on a spare HD.
