Love this hack, works great for me, I make themes for Windows 7 and bringing back the start menu has made it worthwhile making themes for Windows 8, would love to know if there is a way to bring back some more things from Windows 7, there were lots of changes to the shell32.dll in Windows 8 and the explorerframe.dll that I would like roll back to 7 functionality if I could.

*** How can you call that OS? Windows seventy eight. :) And you don't need to use metro anyway.

Mod could you react on ad hominem? We don't discuss like that! He can say everything without that idiot in post. Tnx! :)

If you like the Windows 7 UI so much, why would they upgrade to Windows 8? Not to be a troll or anything, but it seems that if somebody wants to stick with a UI out of the past, why shouldn't they just stick with the previous UI that they are familiar with?

The UI means nothing if millions don't want it. On a tablet sure and for noobs sure but for power users and on a desktop NOWAY!! Windows 8 does provided improvements over 7 but for us it's not the New UI. M$ is just tiring to conditions users that Windows OS can to be used on mobile devices.. For my wife and young kids on our desktops it's just fine but for me it's NOT. Happy coding Tihiy :worthy:

Hyper V is easily replacable, (at least what I have used it for anyhow), by using MS Virtual PC, and creating a virtual machine with it. I've run Windows 7 x64 with Windows XP Pro under that, and then Windows 98 in a virtual Box session under that, and Windows 95 under that in another installation of VirtualBox, and finally under another installation of VirtualBox, Windows 3.11 FW. It's like a version of Inception for computer OSes. It's confusing as hell unless you keep track of what you are doing, but it is completely doable.

Virtual PC is software virtualization. Go read up on the difference between software and hardware virtualization. Then see if this comment of your still makes sense.

Also, try reading all the comments before posting. This has already been covered at least twice in this thread. Windows 8 has many advantages. If you don't know what they all are then like I said, go back and read. Or go Google it.

Because this way we can have many of the genuine improvements that Windows 8 offers, without the obnoxious UI. Best of both worlds, many advantages very few disadvantages over sticking to W7.

    Fantastic work Tihiy.

Metro is the most obnoxious UI and a huge mistake

Metro is the most obnoxious UI ever..... and a huge mistake.... and I am amazed at how much faster my PC is without Metro..... this Patch is the best way to avoid Metro.... the Patch is amazing :worthy: and the people who like Metro...... can have it ...... there needs to be more than one choice .... I bet more than 50% of people hate Metro or will hate it.

What configuration do you have, that metro slows you? :)

I see, still same "quality" of posts from these weak-minded Metro-haters. :))

This explorer patch slows me down: randomly freezing for about 5-10 secs now and then !!

    W8 pro 32bit on Aspire1 netbook

    (no freezing with W7 home)
