Brilliant little app when working switch to windows7 menu when playing switch back to metro. why on earth cant Microsoft realise this is what pc users want. can you make one for mediacenter to extract from & disk for win 8 Enterprise?
why my Ex7forW8 characters are so indistinct? here is the contrast picture follow ww1.sinaimg.cn/large/56cde262jw1dxes8m9mk2j.jpg left pic is native win7 ,right pic is Ex7forW8 BTW:今天是中秋节,祝大家中秋快乐
Considering the level of support Tihiy is giving this project, that it is the lowest resource drag Start Menu/Shell option out there for Windows NT 6.2, is such a clean portable app, with an idiot proof installer, and is enormously popular -- don't the MDL Mods think this thread warrants being STICKY?
Could it be over so soon? View attachment 17902 @Tihiy Look like it could soon be over for ex7forW8 SkipMetroSuite Can be replaced by StartMenu8 (iobit) also free.
Totally buggy stuff. Start8 is the only real competitor but it's paid. I still could try to create standalone start menu replacement, but it would require some unique features as well as lot of time i can't afford.
The thing with Start8 is that its a 3rd party program. ex7forW8 is fully replacing the explorer.exe with the explorer.exe from Windows 7. So this reduces RAM and FULLY disables METRO. With Start8 it just adds the start orb and skips the METRO start screen, plus it uses extra RAM that people need. I think ex7forW8 is the better choice, just needs a few VERY small things here ad there but for the most part its 98% perfect
basically just needs bug fixes and whatnot. after a lot of use, people run into little issues here and there, and report them - and then they get fixed. Start8 and SkipMetroSuite(and any other applications that do this) are usually bulky, and come with more functionality than they need - or in some cases, not enough functionality. They don't integrate with windows quite as well as components that are actually run -by- windows, made -by- microsoft. Any extra programs running in the background are taking up more resources - granted, to the average user, this is generally fine. but what about when you start running many applications at once? eventually those extra programs will get bogged down, because they aren't being run as the system so they don't take priority. This is the cleanest, and most efficient means of adding this functionality back to windows 8, and almost completely removing metro.(we still use if for a couple things - connecting to wireless networks for example. but aside from that, you never see it.) That being said, Congrats on 1.0!
And see the good thing about ex7forW8 is that if you want to do something that requires Metro, all you have to do it open this up, switch back to win8 and relog back in and there you go . Less stress on the system .
You can do it through scripting. If anyone is interested I can get you the code. All my Win8 workstations are using Win7 explorer and are using the Win7 Start Menu profile image without having to do anything in Win8.
there is a readme file in the download were you can donate, and no he can't post it here, not my rules but the boards....
