Interesting...so I went back and looked at all the machines I tested it on. They were all upgrades. On a new install machine, it worked fine. So, just FYI in case someone reports a problem...check for upgrade. EDIT: It also seems to be more problematic with Office 2010 apps. YMMV
So another upgrade-related problem. Like the non-functioning "Metro"-Apps after upgrade since preview versions. Thanks for info.
Scratch that. I came across a couple new installs and Office 2010 did the same thing. Users are unable to switch between the last two office documents. Seems like the problem is just Office. However, Office 2010 ALT+TAB works fine on XP, Vista, Win7 and Win8. It only doesn't work on Win8 with Win7 explorer.
When I came by this thread yesterday, the subject promised to be so interesting to me that I decided to read the whole thread before making a comment. Mehn...was I glad I did! Thank you so very much for this truly appropriate utility, Tihiy. It is what has now pushed me to start going with Win 8 on my machines, and it's working perfect ... I'm started straight on V1.0, and so congrats to you on this version milestone; your efforts are much appreciated. Although I mainly just lurk by nature and only occasionally (this is my first post on this forum since I registered two years ago, ) I look forward to sticking around on this thread to be able to follow further developments on Ex7forW8. Thanks again. P34c3
First, thanks a lot for this awesome tool Tihiy , therefore i have a question and thanks in advance for answering it so here it is : it is possible to make your program work like a command line with arguments for hide metro or activate it like this type : yourprogram -hideMetro on yourprogram -hideMetro off like the way and keep up the good work thanks again.
Did you read the .txt file on the download? and do you understand what Windows explorer 7 does to (Metro) ?? that is your answer.
Mate this is stunning work, I have just tried it and I have full transparency on the start menu using a custom theme I built and it also solved another huge problem I was facing with the colour layer used in the start menu, the only problem I can see so far over your previous version is there are no properties for the start menu when you right click on the taskbar and go to properties, not sure if you implemented it somewhere else but regardless this is amazing work your doing, it's a shame that you will be not doing this one for free though, I realize that your donations may have been slow but you also have to remember that Windows 8 is still not officially released yet so that may have increased after it's release. Anyway I respect your decision and I think if you get all the bugs worked out then this will be a very popular option, I love this path that you have taken and I hope now people will stop calling this an ugly hack, keep up your incredible work mate, there may be some hope for Windows 8 after all. PS please don't try to make the start menu transparent, it is perfect just the way it is. Edit: Sorry just had another look and right clicked on the start button and found the properties, that's even better then the default way
Thanks mate, that works perfect, I have a couple of screens to show you, one with a modified default theme and one of my custom themes and you can see that it is possible to have transparency for custom themes. sorry I don't have enough post count yet to post links so you will have to remove the spaces, sorry admin. Default modified theme http ://oi45.tinypic.com/a0gq4x.jpg My Custom Theme http ://oi50.tinypic.com/2vx55at.jpg One bug I have also noticed is that you have not used a separate bitmap image for the small taskbar using small icons and the start button is offset to the bottom, if possible could you also add the 6801 and 6809 start button bitmaps, 6801 is for small icons on the bottom taskbar position and 6809 is for the top taskbar position. Also this is a big ask but if at all possible can you make it an option to use your own start button images, I can do it anyway using Restorator and changing the start buttons but for easy to use operation for the average Joe I think this would be a big plus and increase the popularity of your program
Cool! I did that purposefully. Start button shadow looks crappy on default theme, so i just removed it (6805). As the result we have start button which looks nice in all positions. I don't really wanna carry top and bottom variations, not lot of people use small icons anyway. Yes, i plan to. If you know where i can get orbs royalty - free, or know a good designer to design an alternate orb (maybe you?), tell me in PM.
Tihiy out of respect for others please remove the profanity on page 1…. I love your work and I will donate as soon as I get paid…..
This IS REALLY major improvement. To be honest Ex7forW8 is rubbish (sorry, but it is), but StartIsBack looks really nice. I will gladly pay for this let's say 30$. Just do the option for "display/not display" Start Menu Orb (Windows Pearl), so different users (on one account) can easily switch on/off Start menu with using your additional features of your suite like "Skipping Metro" (You could also make an option for WinKey function.) Thanks...
Good work, Tihiy. I'm glad with myself for catching this your development of StartIsBack at this early stage, well done; confident it'll work for me when I get to try it later on. Also looking forward to further development of it. One piece of IMO: Don't take seriously those who may goad you into wanting to charge $30 for the final product resulting from this. IMHO, your so doing will just turn folks off, and make them look away more quickly than you can say "Jack Robinson," and seek other solutions. For me, wait until you're able to release a commercial product - if it comes to it, then do a likely user survey on a forum such as this, for you to determine the sustainable and optimum price you can charge.
