    I can tell you why it's much better, it wasn't made by Stardock lol

    Start8 does not render custom themes correctly and you end up with no text and the user picture up the top of the screen, it's absolute rubbish the same as all their products, half baked, half arsed resource hogging and OS breaking crap

    ROFL!!! Yep, I had tried Stardock's first few betas. Very buggy whereas beta 0 of this was hardly buggy at all. Start8 is slower, too, not as elegant a solution and I and others here are already involved in the forums where Tihiy asks and listens to our suggestions whereas Stardock will do whatever the heck they want to (forgive me if you can somehow communicate with them to make suggestions, but the point is it's much easier to get fast development with one dedicated author who actually owns the product than with a group of programmers making a program for a company. Not that they wouldn't take pride in their work, but with a single author we get a more personal touch and quicker response.

    Stay with your favorite RLPack 1.21 if you want. Some antiviruses will detect it and someone (if not me) would still be able to "crack" it.

    @Tihiy
    Oh wait, you didn't actually crack beta 1? I'm sorry then for all the commotion i caused. I thought beta 1 was cracked the day it was released so it upset me.
    I don't have grudge on you or betaarchive, i'm beta lover myself and was a member of OSBetaArchive.

    @Tihiy
    Also as a gift for Beta lovers, i'm planning to release StartIsBack unlimited free for Windows 8 Release Preview only.

    Yeah, RLPack is pretty complicated. It compresses the import table, resources. It also virtualizes CPU instructions, from what I know. Even though it's possible to unpack it, it's a diehard compressor.

    That's actually nice. I think all of us beta lovers will appreciate that.

    Of all the workarounds I've used, StartIsBack has to be the cleanest and smoothest solution by far. Works perfectly!

    In beta2+ you can select start button image, so you can just select 1x3 transparent bitmap and won't have start button or space for it.

    could anyone with beta2 try that please and see if there is a difference between not using startisback and using it with a transparent 1x3px image as orb? (maybe 2 screenshots if it's not too much to ask)
    thanks in advance

    thanks
    yeah kinda
    353Untitled.jpg
    so we still get that big empty space if we use a 1x3px image
    so i still have to combine this with startkiller to get rid of that
    unfortunately i can't test it with myself

    @tihiy: is a very messy thing
    maybe you'll think about adding an option to have no start orb again
    thanks
