Yes, I know this. Iwas trying to get that through KNARZ's head that it uses recycled M$ code. Not his own code; he just added to the code that was already there.
you're switching programs. I talk now about sib. - own code. install.wim is win7ex8 or what is correctly called and also own code.
The better way to explain this is that it is only legal if you -own- a copy of Windows 7. The files required are entirely owned by microsoft, and obtaining those files without owning a copy of windows 7 is technically speaking illegal. As for Tihiy releasing the program to use Windows 7's Explorer in Windows 8, it is also totally legal, because there is no use of microsoft's code, except that of Windows 7's explorer.exe and explorer.exe.mui, and he does not release these files - he expects you to own a copy of windows 7, and to obtain those files on your own, legally. On the topic of StartIsBack, this is also completely legal, because all it's doing is "waking up" code that's already in Windows 8, but not actively used. It does not require any files from Windows 7, so whether or not you own Windows 7, this is completely legal. Also, I'll take the time to say that the price of StartIsBack is very low, and makes a lot of sense to me - Best 3? 5? dollars I've spent in a long time(its so low I cant even remember how much it was xD) I love when developers take the time to make a great product, then release it for a -reasonable- price. If all the software I use on a daily basis was priced so well, I'd pay for all my software.
I have windows 7 but I upgraded to windows 8 and installed windows 8 , so can I use my windows 7 dvd to copy some files to windows 8 such as some applications ?
Oh! I remember this project, Good one at that. Until it was dumped and left to make Startisback that cost money for giving back something that should've been there in the first place. Man people have found so many ways to make money off windows 8 its stupid :|.
I feel the same way... I still use ex7forW8 though without any issue (surprised it just didn't vanish though)
Well I'm going retract my last post here hating on Starisback. I've just got it and Wow! This has got to be the best thing since I stuck a Windows 95 Disk in the microwave XD. Really Startisback is the best replac... Not it is the start menu. I, Huh I wonder how you haven't gotten no issues using it. I've gotten some weird bugs using it :/ Maybe it hates my computer like Windows 7 did .
how is the performance when i use "Windows 7 explorer for Windows 8" ? any issues ore something? stable usage of win8?
No problems here, used it myself from the beginning. If you want to use some "Metro"-Features in coexistence with the start menu, it´s recommended to use StartIsBack instead.
I just joined this forum specifically to thank Tihiy for this code to migrate Explorer 7 and original Windows 7 Orb Start Menu. I am running Win8 Pro OEM installed from disk bought from retail computer shop, and after installing Ex7ForW8 and all my normal programs and all Microsoft/Windows updates, it runs seamless. I never use Metro start screen or live tiles. But it's nice to have toggle switch to get back there if I want. This is the only hack that restores the original start menu with full functionality. And after trying all the others I consider it the best. So thank you, thank you, thank you. You have made my day, week, month ... just make it my year! Without this I would never have purchased Windows 8, so M$ owe you one!
Question on use of your Windows 7 for Windows 8: I have Win8 pre-installed machine, and apart from pre-installed protected partition and external system recovery DVD's of the OS, no access to any Win7 OS disks. Will your excellent Metro-UI removal work for me? I'm dearly hoping the answer's yes - but how, as you say to have Win7 system disks handy?... Thanks for now.
