Hello dear, Tried many time, all the time gives the following error. wrong explorer.exe version provided and here Folder Norwegian language nb-NO
Thanks Tihiy Finally a program that actually works!! I have only been fooling with Win8 for a few days now. Just wanted to see what all the hype was about with Win8. I don't think I am missing anything. Win8 is just Win7 on steroids. Hate that Metro UI junk, and tried many things to get rid of it. My Bad, I should have looked at MDL first. Thanks again. Great app!
I installed Ex7forwin8 but now I have a problem, basically it I also removed the notifications of shortcuts increases when portable up/down sound, brightness control, on/off wifi, etc... Does anyone know how I can enable this option only win8? I have the drivers installed, it removes even this "effect" that comes with win8. Hope someone can help. so this Ex7forW8 is what finally let me install and use W8 for my daily OS, love the super fast UEFI boot and shutdown with the good old classic and authentic start menu, not any of these other emulations for a start bar. I don't know why they call it a hack on other forums?! It uses the actual files from a Win 7 installation disc/ISO. So I've been playing with WinReducer8 to cut out all of the MetroUI garbage and unneeded stuff to make a really lean and fast Win 8 install and thought, why not try to copy the explorer files directly into the installation?? Well first I copied over just the explorer.exe and mui files and after installation it just goes to a black screen.. so I figured out it needs the wrp64.dll wrapper and copied it to the windows folder along with the explorer.exe.. after the install the second time it worked perfect! boot directly to classic windows desktop.. well almost perfect, when I click on system in control panel I got an error that I don't get if I use the Ex7forW8 after a regular installation of Win 8. Are there any other registry changes made with the installer besides redirecting the shell to the explorer installed in explorer7 folder when done with the installer?
This looks like just another start menu emulator. Don't need fancy new start button images or customization.. the old one works just fine.
Well supposedly it makes these alterations without patching any files, registry entries, or services. my question is how then does it make the start menu appear and also the button and theme changes? There has to be some sort of TSR resident to alter the settings, no?
First Tihiy used the Explorer from Win 7 to do the trick. Then he realized that most of the Start Menu code is still in Win 8 available, so he reactivated it by reimplementing the missing parts into the UI (redirected through the DLL of StartIsBack). Sometimes reading helps, as Tito gave you the Link. Using it myself here, first ex7forwin8 then StartIsBack .
Would guess this is exactly what the SiB installer is doing. Same way applies to enable AeroGlass by bigmuscle.
This program won't work with Windows 8.1 :-( Is StartIsBack essentially the same, but a updated, program? Including using less system resources by not loading inessential Windows 8 UI features?
tihiy, could you possibly post some information on how to get this working on 8.1? It is very useful for large domain systems that are upgrading to 8/8.1 but have users who aren't ready for the change, even who don't like startisback because the metro functions are still present. This program can be installed and they'll never know the difference between it and win7 and when they're ready to move to 8/8.1 just switch shells instead of re-imaging the machine. It was very convenient on 8 and works well but as i'm sure you know, it does not work on 8.1. I know this is a discontinued project and I don't expect you to release an update like with startisback (which is amazing btw) but some information on how to patch this up would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
There is no skin images and a lot of functions missing so windows 8.1 port is unfeasible. Too much stuff in Windows 8.1 requires Metro.
