    Hello everyone,

can someone please show me the easiest way to bring a new Windows 7 install up to date?

The starting point would be the ISOs from 2011:
    de_windows_7_professional_with_sp1_x86_dvd_u_677093.iso
    de_windows_7_professional_with_sp1_x64_dvd_u_676919.iso

What is the quickest/cleanest way to get to the October 2024 (Embedded POSReady 7 x86, ESU) or February 2025 (2008 R2 x64, Premium Assurance) status?
Ideally without any 3rd party update collections or unofficial "service packs".

Internet and thus Windows/Microsoft Update is available - but which updates (SSU, SHA-2...) do I need to install first?

Thank you very much for any advice!
    Best wishes, Martin

One way would be to do the install, then use Legacy Update. It will "fix" Windows Update by installing the updates it needs, including the very important SHA-2 code signing certificate. Then you could do the Microsoft rollups to get it to EOL. Beyond that, you would need something like Simplix. I know these are third-party programs, but they make life much simpler. Otherwise, you would need to do a lot of research to figure out what updates to install, what order, etc. These programs are safe and are endorsed by Seven Forums, one of the best forums for Windows Seven users.

Addendum: I also recommend you install Firefox ESR for your browser.

As of MDL standards, only distributions directly from MS are regarded as safe, as they can be verified with official checksums.

So, the answer is: No, MS hasn't touched Windows 7 in years. The monthly updated ISOs only exist since Windows 10.

If that is supposed to answer my question, then it is a misunderstanding. I am not asking about an up to date iso from MS.... I am asking about an up to date ISO !
Maybe updated a month ago., maybe a year ago...

How do you not understand what he's saying... Ok, I'll re-phrase for you - do you consider an updated iso MODIFIED BY SOMEONE ELSE safe? No, you do not. So since
where do you think ANY up-to-date iso will come from? Exactly - SOMEONE ELSE.

Now, you have a grand total of two options, none of which I believe you will like:
    - learn how to make your own up-to-date iso with available resources
    - use an updates iso by SOMEONE ELSE

Anything else you might be looking for is just fiction, wishful thinking, etc. - NOT REALISTIC.

Exactly, and updated/modified ISOs not by MS (and thus not bearing official checksums to verify) are considered "Homebrew" and not allowed to be posted here, it's against the rules.

Thank you Carlos, unlike someone elses super intelligent advice, that is what I as asking. Because there are certainly "safe" versions around. You need to find someone that you trust, because has been using it himself.
That questionable versions cannot be recommended here is obvious...

You mean the kind of intelligent that dances around an already given answer acting like their question hasn't been answered? :)

Why does everybody assume I do noit know that? What is it so hard to understand the question that I actually asked? If there is no answer... fine...
