    Hi

I am trying to install windows 7 32 Bit on a Compaq V600014EA and it hanged on expanding files 0%. What shall I do? Should I change something in the BIOS to make it move?

Bad burn, bad DVD, Bad ISO or your PC is locked against other windows OS installs.

I hope it's not your NAN computer, not sure she'll appreciate it. :p

But well there is a prob with your copy.
Download a new ISO and burn it at low speed on a good DVD-R like verbatim.

Yep done that. Although I can hear the disc drive working, it's not getting any progress and there isn't any corruptions on the disc.

    You must have more patience.
If hard disk and/or DVD-Rom are working you have to leave them working.
Get a beer and watch some porn in the meantime...

She's only got 1GB of RAM and she will have a 2GB upgrade tomorrow. Will that improve the installation?

I'm doing some test installations in virtual machines with 768 MB of ram and everything is fine.
It's not a problem of ram (but upgrading is indeed a good thing).

I noticed that with WZOR's x64 ISO. Just wait a few minutes and it will start extracting.

Ok. I was feeling a bit worried that Nan wouldn't have an OS. So I will do that. It is the offical RTM ISO that was leaked two days ago and there isn't any errors so I will have to wait.... and wait.

Infact, I'm very impressed with the work they did with Windows 7 as I tried the RC once, but then I had to go back with Vista because mine is a council laptop and I can only install with their permission. If they say that I can install it, I will be doing it the legal way and pre-order the Professional version. I hope it expands!

    Not too much.
    It's slow but acceptable.
Check if your hard disk has some bad sector. Use the tools from the hard disk manufacturer.
And check in the bios if there is some protection of boot sectors.

Oh. I reckon with the 2GB upgrade in tomorrow, it might help it expanding.

What's that supposed to mean? Do you have a hash directly coming from Microsoft (I mean black and white proof ON a Microsoft site!) that confirms it's the RTM?
A torrent... as if that is the ultimate in reliability... Did the torrent offer a hash and was that hash the same as the downloaded file? After you burnt the DVD, did you verify the copy?
Do you have reliable hardware, when is the last time you updated your bios, when is the last time you checked your memory, updated your drive firmware, who built the PC, etc
And what’s that supposed to mean, ever heard of any "half" formatting? Have you actually done a "true" format, instead of a quick format that doesn't do any surface scan?

I’m a professional network and system engineer for over 21 years and with all respect you sound to me like the average computer user; making way too many assumptions.

Before you install an OS you need to be 100% sure that everything is double checked and even if you claim to have checked things, I still doubt about the usefulness of your tests. You're not installing a new release of some game, you're installing an OS!

What version are you using? You may have downloaded garbage. I would suggest you download from a carefully chosen site or torrent. I am sure someone here can suggest asuitable site
