I ended up going through the list of updates in the latest pack. Although I've installed all the updates in your repository, I found 33 updates that were new for x86. What do you mean by "superseed"?
Supersede, or supercede effectively means to replace, or more precisely (in a way) to replace and make defunct. In SoLoR's update lists, the updates are listed as 'added', and 'removed'. The 'added' updates supercede the 'removed' updates, as the 'removed' updates have older components and replace the same files. Apparently supersede is the correct spelling, and supercede is a common mis-spelling, but it doesn't really matter. The spelling 'supercede' is from what I just read more common in print, but I think thats because 'supercede' looks better than 'supersede'.
So if I have been installing all the updates in the repository, without uninstalling the older updates, should I go through all my updates, and uninstall the older, uneeded updates?
will the zukobonus july be out today ? edit: they're out. waiting for solor to do his thing xD edit 2: just wanted to clarify my knowledge about LDR n GDR hotfix branches. So, the latest LDR hotfixes supercedes all previous LDR and GDR? and latest GDR supercedes only the previous GDR - so LDR versions of that hotfix should not be removed?
SoLoR leave the older version hotfixes with only LDR so to force the LDR branch of the newer hotfix, if the/a older LDR hotfix is not installed beforehand by default the hotfix will give you the crappy GDR branch BTW be patient, its patch Tuesday SoLoR needs to wait to see how the updates stack up to MS official release today
More like... it took me around ~12 hours to go thrue all 3 of zukonobuses :< i think im done now, just need to check some stuff and install them in to VM. This will again take a while but at least is automatic and i dont need to do much... expect new updates today VERY late (around ~midnight CET) in the evening or tomorrow sometimes in the mid day... also like ricktendo64 said im waiting for offical MS hotfixes as well, but atm update list looks something like this: Code: Updated: 10.8.2010 - Added: KB907286, KB978886, KB978949-v2, KB979163, KB979346, new KB979687, new KB979688, KB980385(x64), KB980436, KB980794, KB982132, new KB982214, new KB982316, KB982664, KB982665, KB982799, KB982856, KB982929(x64), KB982936, KB983177, KB983474, KB983476, KB983550-v2, KB983618, KB2028610, KB2028815, KB2029006, KB2079403, KB2102850, KB2121850, KB2157973, KB2158563, KB2159360-v4, KB2160329, KB2171571-v2, KB2182005, KB2182466, KB2183461, KB2194664, KB2200118, KB2203302, KB2203330, KB2213729, KB2213970, KB2217044, KB2223201, KB2223916-v3, KB2249684, KB2249857, KB2250979, KB2253063(x64), KB2254157, KB2254512, KB2254754, KB2257924, KB2259539, KB2261116, KB2262325, KB2263831(x64), KB2265716, KB2266686, KB2268318, KB2268596, KB2272691, KB2275019, KB2275950, KB2276755, KB2277775, KB2277904, KB2277998, KB2280699, KB2280758, KB2281058, KB2281456, KB2283445, KB2284538, KB2287812, KB2288055, KB2288487, KB2288536, KB2295805-v2, KB2297384(x64), KB2302077, KB2223832(x64), KB2272717, KB333333, KB975443-v2, KB2124261, KB2257487, KB2271195, KB2294592, KB983574 - Removed: KB982867-v2, KB978949, KB981382, old KB979687, old KB979688, KB972270, KB980218, old KB982214, old KB982316, KB982632, KB958685-v2, KB983543, KB2209360-v2 (x64), KB977165-v2, KB979309, KB975560, KB978542, KB974571, KB979099, KB981332, KB975467, KB978601, KB982479, KB976036, KB981709, KB983615, KB2032276(x64), KB981394, KB981793, KB982635, KB981109, KB982502-v2, KB982381, KB2064460, KB979443, KB983633, KB978054-v4(x64), KB978571, KB978637(x64), KB982633, KB982669, KB980195, KB979482, KB982666, KB979916, KB982519, KB977180(x86), KB974624, KB981845, KB982643, KB978000, KB983531, KB977178-v2, KB982667, KB981214, KB983401, KB981506, KB975535-v3, KB982520, KB2278855, KB978347, KB981194, <removed everything from RSAT/ADLDS/AppFabric, to much work for something that is mostly usable only in corporate enviroment> Updated: 8.8.2010 - Added: KB2303458(x64)
dunno maybe... just dont expect anything today... after i installed pack on clean install i find out big flaw in this stupid update system. This zukobonuses includes 2 or 3 comulative updates and ofc i went and replace ~15 updates with this 2 and since this comulative updates have components same version as updates released over WU they get show on update check... silly MS, like its a problem to make check ">" only and not "=>". ZEH!
exactly ms update check showed some older updates after i updated according to your list but all the latest binaries will include those updates right?
well.. i removed 2 comulative updates and readded those small ones... need to do clean updates install in VM to recheck tho... so ye another few hours down the drain.
Microsoft has also made a stuffup with the the Outlook 2010 x64 filter download from the Microsoft downloads site (the x86 Office is ok). The new download has an old Outlook filter in it, consequently it doesn't really update anything and still shows in Windowsupdate. I redownloaded and double checked to make sure, its definitely their stuffup! I download it through the Windows Update Catalogue (where Windows Update checks), and that is the correct version.
GDR : General Distribution Release LDR : Limited Distribution Release Windows Hotfixes and Updates - How do they work? ttp://blogs.msdn.com/b/ntdebugging/archive/2008/10/21/windows-hotfixes-and-updates-how-do-they-work.aspx Example: KB976538-v2 includes LDR update only of Microsoft-Windows-NTFS (GDR :none, LDR : 6.1.7600.20672) KB981166-v2 includes GDR and LDR update of Microsoft-Windows-NTFS (GDR :6.1.7600.16561, LDR : 6.1.7600.20679) if you have not installed update of Microsoft-Windows-NTFS yet, and install KB981166-v2, Windows updates Microsoft-Windows-NTFS to version 6.1.7600.16561. Furthermore, when you install KB976538-v2, Windows updates Microsoft-Windows-NTFS to version 6.1.7600.20679. Because GDR update (6.1.7600.16561) does not include fix of LDR update (6.1.7600.20672). LDR onlu update can replace LDR only update. GDR and LDR update can replace GDR and LDR update. if you have following situation, and always install LDR update, you can remove GDR and LDR update (KBxxxxxx). KBxxxxxx : GDR and LDR update. KByyyyyy : LDR only update ( LDR version is newer than LDR update of KBxxxxxx) if you have following situation, and always install LDR update of KBxxxxxx forcibly (you need to use command-line), you can remove LDR only update (KByyyyyy). KBxxxxxx : GDR and LDR update. KByyyyyy : LDR only update ( LDR version is older than LDR update of KBxxxxxx)
I did update now, but keep in mind one thing... Even after all updates you get some updates offered on WU, i have absoutly no clue why and only way around this is to install those updates that are otherwise superseeded. I did not decide what ill do yet, but ill probably just keep them out of the list, since tecnicaly they are superseeded... anyway updates in question are: KM982526 is "made up" from 2 updates, KB958488 (part of .net 4.0) and KB979900 (WPF components). KB979900 is superseeded by KB981429 and even when you have both KB981429 and KB958488 installed it still shows on WU. KB983590 (.net) is superseeded by KB979744-v2 KB976098 (timezones) is superseeded by KB2158563. This is only visable on x64 it works as it suppose to on x86. Also other thing regarding this update and x64, if you have any LATER timezone update officaly released over WU this update wont show, but if you install timezone update not released over WU you will get KB976098 show in update list. Anyway you can safely hide this updates i mentioned.
this has nothing to do with the sp1 beta , as solor said before its better to stick to zukobonuses if u want to use the latest os code.
