Do you have a link for the new IE9 installer?

Solor, is there a new KB982861 that we/I can download? Or is it only possible to update IE9 to the new version with kb2530548?

Thanks SoLoR, I forgot you actually use IE ;) I'll just leave in the previous IE9 in there for my new build, as I don't really use it anyway and there seems to be the possibility of trouble for me. Thanks for sorting through the updates again :D

Thank you so much for your informative explanation. :worthy:

Sorry for not being helpful enough. I guess that most of us will just install the cumulative IE9 update, rather than reinstall IE9 as you did. Anyway, I applaud your effort, because thank to you, we can now suspect that the IE 9 refreshed installer may have some problem.
You did attempt various ways to troubleshoot the problem. I think the remaining method would be:
    a. Install a fresh Windows 7 SP1 that has no IE9 integrated. Upon Windows installation, attempt to install the IE 9 refreshed installer; or:
    b. Install a fresh Windows 7 SP1 with the IE 9 refreshed installer integrated.

If IE 9 fails to function through either of these methods, we can safely conclude that the IE 9 refreshed installer is corrupted. For that, we shall stick to original IE9 installer, or wait for IE 9.0.2 new installer when the next cumulative security update is released in the future.

Thanks akf, but for some reason I was just able to install IE9 x64 after all.

I did the same thing, uninstalled, which reverts it back to IE8, then install the new IE9, but this time around it worked. Perhaps it needed an extra reboot cycle after IE8 got restored or something...

I did have one problem with my system though that I just found out: my SATA DVD drive just went out, it's dead. This caused slow and problematic boot up, so perhaps it was related. After unhooking the cable it boots fine again.

My main interest in updates (including IE9, etc.) is for integrating them in new OS builds, which is why I was trying to find out if anyone else had the problem I had too, in which case I would not have included the IE9 refresh into a new build. But I can see now that it will work.

One question though: if I integrate the IE9 refresh into my new build, do I still need to integrate the cumulative IE9 update, or are the updates already included in the IE9 refresh itself?

So, if I integrate both IE 9.0.1 and the cumulative IE9 update together, will the cumulative IE9 update act as a LDR placeholder, so that LDR branch of IE 9 is installed? Or, there is no effect at all when integrating both IE 9.0.1 and the cumulative IE9 update?

well, I have a system with all the updates until may 2011 slipstreamed, so that's including KB2497453, but KB2478662 STILL appears in the windows update. I am aware that the system.dll is newer in KB2497453, but tell Microsoft that. :)

    Hi bapt

just go to main Windows 7 forum and put your question there

I'm not an expert but I think that you will be able to find the file system.dll in this directory

    c:\windows\winsxs\

I hope this can help you

    Code:
    %WinDir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727
    and/or
    %WinDir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727
Its a Microsoft Update bug, installing the update does not update any files but it does silence WU

I am still a bit confused as to what I need to include into my W7 SP1 image o_O

Is there a reason why I shouldn't just go ahead and integrate everything under /Windows.7/Hotfixes/x86/ ?

Is there any type of guide/explanation of what each of these folders contain (if yes, please tell me the link)?

    IIS
    Integrate to installation media
    LDR placeholders
    MSQM
    Not integratable to Offline image

From the additions folder, I d say I want the following:

    DirectX.End-User.Runtimes.(June 2010)
    dot.NET.Framework.4.0.30319
    KB917607.Windows.Help.(WinHlp32.exe)
    KB943790.Windows.File.Management.API.(Fmapi.dll)
    KB947821.System.Update.Readiness.Tool
    KB958559.Windows.VirtualPC.and.XPMode
    KB969168.Microsoft.Agent
    KB971033.Windows.Activation.Technologies
    KB974405.Windows.Identity.Foundation
    KB976002.Browser.Ballot
    KB982861.Internet.Explorer.9.0
    Silverlight

Last (but not least!) is there an order in which these files need to be integrated? Don't know why, but I got the feeling that the order might be important amongst some of the updates for them to be installed good and proper
