Well doesn't that suck! Tease us with the information, even provide a request link, then tells you to get stuffed lol!
Seems the other day when I said the old download centre was back Microsoft were fixing a few issues with it. I'm just completely guessing this, but it doesn't seem to suck as much anymore. At least there's the ability, like the old download site, to browse through all the downloads. I'm pretty sure this was missing (or at least not working) before. I still disagree with it automatically suggesting relevancy, its never worked properly. This is true for practically all the browse options (all downloads, or just office downloads etc). Under all downloads, in the top ten results showed Directx from 2006, and Internet Explorer 6 SP1. I don't see how these have any relevance on most of todays computers! Luckily you can still order them all by date, and in descending order so the new downloads always show at the top.
Hows about a link, I still get the new sucky dl center...If I want the old one I have to switch langs
Going back to that - why I shouldn't include KB947821. I just read the KB on the MS site and it doesn't look anything special. But does it have any disadvantages i.e. performance/stability? There are a few more I m troubled whether I should include or not: KB969168.Microsoft.Agent - "When you try to start a program in Windows 7, you may receive an error that is associated with Microsoft Agent and the program may crash." and "This issue occurs because Microsoft Agent has been discontinued with the release of Windows 7. Microsoft Agent is not included in Windows 7, and it will not be included in any later versions of the Windows operating system. However, you can download Microsoft Agent as a hotfix for your Windows 7 computer." So, is this to say that I am only adding 'legacy' support for apps that use it? Would it harm stability by including this? KB971033.Windows.Activation.Technologies - Can Daz's solution deal with that? If yes, is there any other reason that I might want to skip it from the integration? KB974405.Windows.Identity.Foundation - I read the KB, but haven't understood much. I am not really a .NET developer if that's whats its affecting - so, do I need it? KB976002.Browser.Ballot - Although its useless, I was tempted to include this one I d love to get the message from MS Windows that I can use Firefox as well . But I think I ll pass. KB982861.Internet.Explorer.9.0 - I never use IE9, but I like the idea of having it up-to-date nevertheless. So I plan to include the 2 msu's under that folder. Any reason I shouldn't? Finally, I won't be including the LDR placeholders folder...
So I need to grab KB2541119 and delete KB2545479 ? I presume this goes to the root of the archive making a total of 199 files!?
KB947821 is tool that fixes windows update errors, you can run it many time as you want since its not hotfix so this should never be integrated. KB969168 is pretty useless this days, i used to need it because old mIRC was using MS agent. KB971033 should be fine for most of the loaders(including Daz)/bios mods. KB974405 i think provides some new .net function calls for outside programs, if any program at any time will need them im sure it will also include this hotfix. About IE9 current installer is latest, this means you shouldnt need hotfix, that hotfix is for old installer, however you might still probably force LDR branch of components from hotfix to new installer (didnt try). this yes
Just had KB253466 come up for me too, lol. Its definitely superseded, kb947821-V12 didn't resolve it, I guess its time for kb947821-v13! I believe its this tool that is meant to resolve these kinds of issues
My only concern is that I still use quite a few old apps - i.e. DOS / old windows games so I guess I should include it just in case. If I include it, would it be something like a windows service (services.msc) that can be run manually for when and if needed?
Well when i tested this latest updates on clean install inside VM i get 4 hotfixes shown on WU, however i am forcing update with update-bf.mum and skiping update.mum so no suprise here... I got used to just hide all updates that gets offered over WU, since i belive i know more then WU whats superseeded and what not and WU started to piss me off...
Only application i EVER know that was using MS Agent was mIRC and even mIRC functioned fine without it, just compatibility assistant (that i have it disabled this days anyway) was complaining that i need it... as far as i know this MS Agent is still legacy from WinXP.
