If we assume that build 7601.17514 is final, then how do we see this in relation to the updates you have been posting? I mean, since that build of SP1 has been compiled a while back, what updates you posted that came out after that sp1 build would still be applicable and which ones would not be? I know you started a post-SP1 update list now, so if we integrate SP1 build 17514 with a Win7 RTM, do we only apply the updates found in your post-SP1 update list to such a build? Or do we still install some of the latter updates from your existing updates list? Thanks for any info...
No idea yet what updates besides the ones specificaly for SP1 will be applicable... you wont need to integrate SP1 anyway since offical MS isos with SP1 will be released.
Not to bother you too much with my piddly questions, but I would think that integrating all the updates (including the post sp1 ones you posted, right?) you put up so far would produce a build that is just as updated/good as any sp1, right?
almost i guess... however SP1 is still probably bit better + you can remove ~350 updates and start from scratch
No thats correct, you only need to install the post SP1 updates. There are some updates/additios that still apply to SP1, including Directx, Silverlight, Net Framework 4 (and updates), the winhlp32.exe (shouldn't need a separate SP1 install), and possibly the Microsoft Agent, and the Windows Identity Foundation... If installing SP1 on a system with updates already installed, the old updates will remain but be non functional. The updates will be 'archived' with the pre-SP1 installation Windows files so that you can uninstall SP1. Since uninstalling SP1 is an unlikely event, you can remove the old updates and remove the ability to uninstall SP1 (in the process saving disk space) by running the compcln command. Although I haven't seen this as part of SP1 myself (since I haven't seen SP1 ), it should be there just like with Vista SP2, and Vista SP1 (listed as sp1cln). This only needs to be run once, and is non-reversible. It isn't present in a SP1 ISO, simply because it isn't needed! Once SP1 is leaked/released, I'll start posting a post SP1 old update remover (when old updates are listed).
ok thank you because I integrate the Updates to Windows 7, with SP1, it will just integrated Updates for SP1
i've been running sp1 beta and rc and so far have not seen either vsp1cln.exe or compcln.exe file, so i don't think it's included with win7 sp's, so you'll would have to use disk cleanup to get rid of the backup of pre-sp1 files including updates, or if your integrating sp1 into an rtm image, you can use dism to remove the backup files.
you could use dism on your installation using the online switch dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /spsuperseded
I'm assuming they will be available in the final SP1 only (the update, not the Windows 7 sp1 iso). Once run, you cannot uninstall the service pack. Since its only beta and RC's that have been available, making it so you cannot uninstall them could be a very bad idea, especially since its most likely you can't install the SP1 final over a beta or RC.
i dont think so, otherwise those files would have been part of the sp1 update package during the beta and rc.
So, with the new Windows updates today, there is a new kb976902 with the same build number as what SP1 RTM is meant to be 6.1.7601.17514 Its listed on the Microsoft download website as a cab file, with no instructions on how to install it (basically its listed like a .msu) and it doesn't install using the normal cab install method. Any ideas? (Microsoft stuffed up lol)
Im saying for a while that 6.1.7601.17514 is SP1 RTM but noone wants to confirm or leak... anyway i also have .msus of the new KB976902.
