all installed OK for me too, but, I also install all the new updates manually. However, since 976902 I can no longer edit the wim file (index 4)-error 0x800f082f when trying to remove odselete packages/updates; 976902 slipstreamed into this wim without issue. Update: tried to do a fresh realtime install with 976902 slipstreamed=same problem as with the Oct variant-fatal error 1/2 way through setup. I'm going to stay away from this bad boy-wait for SP1
I got KB976902 in my patch tuesday Windows Updates. It was listed as optional and it installed ok after the 3 others I got and installed.
I'm getting that since a fresh install last December, most directory creation times correspond to windows starting up. This is right on \AppData\Local and not on Local\temp where Windows Live also creates some similar stuff. Did anyone end up finding the cause of this? Thanks!
nope i still didnt... no clue what is causing it... i manualy remove them once/week but i know for a fact WindowsLive is somehow responsible.
^^^ Wow, you don't have Classic Shell installed? ^^^ Classic Shell gives you the extra "one up" button in Explorer and of course the incomparably better Classic Start Menu (with bunch of skins, including Aero ones)... don't know what I would do without it...
I just noticed the same behavior in another computer under w7 x86 and not x64. The first random clsid-like directory creation date is very close (about 5m later) to the directory date of a previous Windows Live installation, consisting only of Live Messenger b15.4.3508.1109. The same computer had b.15.4.3502.xxxx before, and no empty clsid-like folders prior to that manual Live Messenger update. edit: I just found a thread elsewhere discussing this issue: h__p://w_w.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/36297725/wlsetup-creates-empty-folders-in-localappdata.aspx I can also confirm that the file dates on %localappdata%\Microsoft\WLSetup\Logs match the creation of empy folders at %localappdata%, even though in less number.
Now that the Win7 SP1 RTM is out, is it better to keep installing your updates SoLor, or just install SP1 now?
SP1... i wont maintain pre SP1 repository... however need to check all updates first, i install SP1 half an hour ago and it didnt uninstall ~24 updates... by my calculation there should be less need to install clean SP1 somewhere and then check what updates really apply.
So when I go to install this final version of SP1, it will automatically get rid of the redundant updates? Should I wait a bit for you to figure out which updates don't really apply?
Yes it removed almost all updates, like i said it left ~24 of them, however i think even more of them doesnt apply but for some reason they are not removed... i think there should be like max ~10 updates left.
/x or /extract switch... something like that anyway about updates, additions all seems to be valid (including WAT) except System Update Rediness Tool and Windows Update Agent... about updates im confused, there is about 10 updates that are applicable however, noone is officaly for SP1 and even more some are actualy a year and more old... ill just remove them all since clearly something is not right. edit: probably ill remove WAT and Ballot as well, because on clean install it doesnt show on WU, so i assume it will be reissued for SP1. Basicaly more or less everything version 6.1.7600.x will go out. Even more... ONLY update shown on fresh SP1 install, without any updates preinstalled is Silverlight... hmmm...
Thanks SoLoR, but it is actually -x, not /x... I had already tried the / method but it doesn't work, so -x it is (i.e., windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe -x from command prompt, for example). So those Post-SP1 updates you upped, are those still applicable to this release if nothing else? Thanks
