So microsoft facing legal suit, about metro name by germany company called Metro Ag. I was wondering whats the name of windows 8 ui
Although the download link downloads the x86 file, it contains both the x86 and x64 runtimes. The runtimes aren't purely the new version, they are actually the old version with an update file. In my installer the update file is integrated.
Same as you, i'm waiting for the updates for win8 rtm, so i can release my update lists, and take down the RP ones. Maybe we will get some updates in next week's patch tuesday.
Agreed, i tried it, after 1 hour i reverted back to 7, i just cannot get used to the start screen concept. I'll be waiting for SP2 now.
Before I forget it. The repo will be updated tomorrow when the scanner has finished. Then I know if more hotfixes are available. Just a note. The scanner starts at Sundays at 8 pm CET automatically and runs to Tuesdays.
You can get around that I believe. I won't be installing it until it can be 'activated', and then I'll maybe work on something...
I know there is 3rd party programs out there like classic shell (which is a great app!) that can get the win7 goodies back in win8, but i just don't see the point. Granted win8 is new, fast, but ugly with no aero, and it just dosen't convince me to upgrade, like win7 did. Hope to not offend anyone but, in my view, it's just a new start screen slap bang on top of a updated and tweaked win7, with 1-2 extra goodies included (VHD/ISO mounting comes to mind!) PS - This was not to have ago at anyone, as i have great respect for this forum and some of it's members, it was just to express my reason to not upgrading. And i'll still be making Update Lists for Win8 even though i'm not using it.
You're not far off the mark. Microsoft tailored Windows 8 towards touch screens, and the remained of the stuff they changed, like removing Aero, was nothing more than making it look different to Windows 7. Aero did have the problems on old slow laptops initially of using battery time, but since then newer laptops don't have that issue, and the code has been much improved. The code has been improved so much that I doubt it would have any noticeable effect on the battery life. Of course, the simple solution Microsoft could have implemented to get around this is for Laptops to simply run with 'aero off' on battery, and 'aero on' on power. The UI is a step backwards in terms of looks, I think Microsoft are underestimating the importance of at least some 'eye candy'. Windows 8 is likely to be 'modable' at least to an acceptable level, such that it would be quite reasonable to run over Windows 7.
No new hotfixes. I guess after Patch-day there will be big collection of new hotfixes. Win7 x64 only 07.08.2012 Added: KB2715922 Removed: KB2559767-v2 KB2673347
As McRip predicted, there will be lot of Windows 8 updates available in the near future. The quoted text is for those who are unaware.
