You can get around that I believe. I won't be installing it until it can be 'activated', and then I'll maybe work on something...
I know there is 3rd party programs out there like classic shell (which is a great app!) that can get the win7 goodies back in win8, but i just don't see the point. Granted win8 is new, fast, but ugly with no aero, and it just dosen't convince me to upgrade, like win7 did. Hope to not offend anyone but, in my view, it's just a new start screen slap bang on top of a updated and tweaked win7, with 1-2 extra goodies included (VHD/ISO mounting comes to mind!) PS - This was not to have ago at anyone, as i have great respect for this forum and some of it's members, it was just to express my reason to not upgrading. And i'll still be making Update Lists for Win8 even though i'm not using it.
You're not far off the mark. Microsoft tailored Windows 8 towards touch screens, and the remained of the stuff they changed, like removing Aero, was nothing more than making it look different to Windows 7. Aero did have the problems on old slow laptops initially of using battery time, but since then newer laptops don't have that issue, and the code has been much improved. The code has been improved so much that I doubt it would have any noticeable effect on the battery life. Of course, the simple solution Microsoft could have implemented to get around this is for Laptops to simply run with 'aero off' on battery, and 'aero on' on power. The UI is a step backwards in terms of looks, I think Microsoft are underestimating the importance of at least some 'eye candy'. Windows 8 is likely to be 'modable' at least to an acceptable level, such that it would be quite reasonable to run over Windows 7.
No new hotfixes. I guess after Patch-day there will be big collection of new hotfixes. Win7 x64 only 07.08.2012 Added: KB2715922 Removed: KB2559767-v2 KB2673347
As McRip predicted, there will be lot of Windows 8 updates available in the near future. The quoted text is for those who are unaware.
Added: Microsoft Camera Codec Pack (16.4.1620.0719) (Microsoft.Runtimes/Microsoft Camera Codec Pack (16.4.1620.0719)) Removed: Microsoft Camera Codec Pack (16.3.1483.0410) (Microsoft.Runtimes/Microsoft Camera Codec Pack (16.3.1483.0410))
With KB2559767-v2, there is "microsoft-windows-SMB20-minirdr" which is not present with KB2715922 But the version "mrxsmb20.sys" is 21957 (KB2559767-v2), and in my windows, it's 22013
@bapt Windows-SMB20-MiniRdr 6.1.7601.21957 in KB2559767-v2 is superseded by KB2703610 (Windows-SMB20-MiniRdr 6.1.7601.22013), from McRip's repo.
McRip, How yours scanner works? Did you check all direct links like: support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=xxxxxxx? Where xxxxxxx is set from 2100000 to 2800000. Or yours scanner just check the update articles KBxxxxxxx? For example: as is done on the site: kbupdate.info
That's correct. The new 4.5 Net Framework replaces Net Framework 4.0. Has anyone got the old Visual C++ Redist Installer V15? or Visual C++ Redist Installer V14? If so can they please upload it I need it to look at the 2012 MSI's for the installation issue. Thanks!
