Komm, make sure your kuc install the updates in ldr/qfe mode only. I don't know if your kuc already does this. Because there are several problems on some computers installing those updates in gdr mode. Already tested on 4 machines, on two of them installing in gdr mode it sucked. Installed it in ldr mode everthing went fine.

Disk.sys file (and disk.inf) have never been updated?
    This is still version 6.1.7600.16385?

    Thanks

Maybe that's why I never had a problem using the older ones with WinToolKit... I am doing a new integration now but I am going out of town and it won't be done before I'm back so can't report on my findings before Monday night.

What kind of problems did you detect?
What is the version of wudfcoinstaller if you uninstall thoes updates? Make sure it's 6.1.7601.17514
Did you try installation via the msi?

KUC will not offer the new version, if the old version is installed.

    Ok, more feedback.

    1. After uninstalling KB2685811 and KB2685813 the Explorer restarting issues are gone. Almost half a day and my system was issue-free without them.

    2. I tried as McRip said to install them in LDR mode, with Win Toolkit Update Installer. Same result, the explorer needing to restart every 3 minutes again. The first time they were installed directly, double-click, so probably GDR mode.

    3. I also tried the older versions - again explorer issues. It may be a conflict between them and some new drivers (both chipset and also video from AMD) that I used for the first time in the latest build and after it (the video driver wasn't integrated), and those drivers are also windows 8 compatible.

So I'm going to try a build with these latest drivers (the same as before), but without any trace of KB2685811 and KB2685813 or the WDK 8 Redistributable installer, and see for a couple of days if the problems with explorer are back or not. So I can give a final conclusion for this then, for now KB2685811 and KB2685813 are 99% to blame for this VERY annoying explorer issue I have.

That is still the current version (well, apart from Windows 8!).

The file description says 'PnP Disk Driver', so one can only assume it isn't so much an actual driver for the disk, but a driver to support hotplugging and disk device changes etc.

I have been running the "old" version of 2685811/13 since 2012-08-08 on all my computers with no problem. (except: 999158/999159 problem see my FAQ for detail).
But i did not have installed the latest AMD video drivers.

Try uninstallation of the video driver, and installation of 2685811/13.
If the problem disapears, the problem could be related to the AMD driver also.

What about installation via the wdfcoinstaller.msi?

I do not have a machine with this issue, so i can not check your problems.

    Nevertheless,
this updates in conjunction with 999158/9 cost me (and others) so much hours,
that I plan to wipe it out in the next KUC version.
If it is installed it will get KUC-State: OK/INFO with the advice to uninstall it.
If not it will be ignored.

What do all the people on this forum think about that?

I didn't use the msi installer for the updates.

On the two machines I also had the Explorer issues and some bluescreens caused by those two updates after installing in gdr mode.
After uninstalling and rebooting I installed those updates in ldr mode and all issues were gone.
The issues occurred in association with some ati drivers I accidentally have on the affected machines.
So I guess it is an ATI related issue.

Additionally those updates can successfully be integrated in ldr mode. Tested yesterday. Integrating in gdr mode will not work.

Nevertheless I would recommend either to pull those updates from our repos or to move them to the Additional section or something. I am still considering this point.

If old and new KB2685811/KB2685813 are the same, why there are new?

after installing the old/new KB2685811/KB2685813 on both of my pc, I've problems w/ windows explorer freezing/hanging using the latest amd driver(12.7 beta). I decided to removed the said hotfix & amd beta driver & install the amd 12.6 driver. After rebooting, I installed the latest hotfix KB2685811/KB2685813. My pc's are back to normal w/ no traces of my previous problem.

Well apart from possible optimisations between 1.9 and 1.11 (if there are any), it's also the consideration that for most devices future drivers won't be Windows 7 or Windows 8 specific. This isn't an issue at the moment, but it's possible that if a driver is written with 1.11 in mind, that you need 1.11 for it to function properly on Windows 7 (hence the reason of its availability in the first place).

I will have to think about this one further and either do some testing with them included on a variety of laptops or cut them out and add them at a later time
