Thanks for pointing that out, it was a mistake I have corrected it locally (so only removes on x64). Since the big batch lot of updates are coming online I'll wait to include those changes before uploading it.
The issue the included files resolve and the article is VM related, but since it updates a non-VM specific file, and updates that are LDR updates are cumulative, it's not VM only
@McRip KB2740522-v2 is only needed if you don't have KB2506143 (Windows.Management.Framework.3.0) installed. Also I believe Windows.Management.Framework.3.0 is final and no longer a CTP (Consumer Technology Preview, a type of prerelease). Update KB2506143 is basically 'Windows 8 components for Windows 7', whereas KB2740522 is just a bug release fix for the Windows 7 version that updates only some of the files. Since the Windows 8 version is now final I suggest moving that to the main folder, and removing KB2740522-v2. If people are wondering why they updated the Windows 7 version of these components if the Windows 8 version is available for Windows 7, it's for the same reason as Internet Explorer 8 related updates still being released despite Internet Explorer 9 being around for quite a while. Also just in case people are wondering, KB2740317-v2 is an update to the Windows Indexing Service. If you have the indexing windows feature disabled under 'Windows features' (and not just the service disabled) this update will not install as it is not applicable or applyable.
I'm all for using the latest updates, but in this case, I'm not sure I agree. 2740522-v2 is just a small and simple update. I don't plan on installing 2506143 since it adds a lot I'll never use. @McRip, I suggest leaving things as is. Also, the reason IE8 is still being updated is that it's still the latest version of IE available for XP users. I do agree with you about 2740317-v2 though.
komm I think there is a problem with this version as it doesn't show any new updates needed only to remove..
Satisfy WU I notice that there is a rather large difference in the number of updates that you each have in the "satisfy" folder... Komm has 6 McRip has 21.... can anyone help me understand?
I don't know komm's way to do. But when you force to install in LDR/QFE mode, these updates will be shown via Windows Update. That's it.
I believe Komm's list are the superseded updates required to satisfy WU, whereas Mcrip's list is all updates required to satisfy Windows update, including those that are still valid. These updates have to have both their GDR and LDR components installed, unlike other hotfixes where just the LDR versiom should be installed. The different lists may even vary because the satisfy WU requirement may vary a little between different systems, so it seems
Retrieve CAB files from and Install Hello, Guys, I want to Use the CAB File downloaded by Windows update or Microsoft update to update my other laptop, the updates include office updates also. i can copy those upadtes from Software distribution folder under C:\Windows, but 1. Is there a tool that can retrieve those updates from that folder and put it in a folder that i choose. 2. Please can someone give me a script like batch file that can install those CAB files one by one waiting one update to install before going the second one. It will be nice if the batch can search the folder and sub folder for the CAB files and install them without restarting the computer till all the updates have installed then offer you to restart. Am not a Computer Geek, thats why i ask in this excellent Forum. Thanking everyone in Advance.
