If an update is GDR and LDR, the GDR version is installed via update.mum, and the LDR version is installed via update-bf.mum. If an update is GDR or LDR only, then the update only contains update.mum. In other words, the update-bf.mum is a 'secondary' installer, if it isn't needed (in that the update only has one version, whether it be the GDR codepath or LDR codepath) then it will only contain the primary installer, update.mum. update.mum does not specifically signify GDR. The reason why the GDR codepath gets the primary installer if there are both GDR and LDR versions is because GDR is the 'General Distribution Release', hence utilises the primary installer (when both are present), and LDR being the 'Limited Distribution Release' is considered secondary, due to it being a 'limited' release, so it utilises the secondary installer if both GDR and LDR are present. Bapt is right with the versionings though: To determine whether an update containing just update.mum is GDR or LDR, you have to check the actual file version numbers. LDR only updates aren't that common though, so that is probably what has caused the confusion regarding the primary and secondary installer.
