Is it safe to install these updates, even if you don't have SP1 installed?

Thanks for the info, ReignOfFreedom. I see what's going on then... when I read up on the kb info for that update, it seemed to me that it was only for a very circumscribed set of circumstances. So I did not install that particular update. The article I read described it as follows:

So I thought this meant this update would only apply if you're running on the Intel Huron River platform?

If so I can do without the build number upgrade ;) Or should it be installed anyway?

@aznkid25 all updates should be downward compatible, that is until they stop support for Windows 7 RTM most if not all updates will contain sp0 files

@Trinket why are you even installing any of these updates, this is not the place for the faint hearted

yes, but the problem it addresses is not common for everyone.

everyone has the VB and Jscript files that you flagged updates for as special case too ;)

not to mention it is only valid to apply it prior to installing sp1.

Your choice, each to their own I always say. I'm always willing to risk because I use Terabyte software for all my backup needs and always have a current image of my system to restore in case anything goes wrong-nothing ventured, nothing gained as they say. :)

I installed it anyways and have experienced no adverse effects although I don't run any x86 specific software.

On quick look only KB2465772 gets superseededs... also with that Kernel update you should stop seeing one of those updates released over WU that i said i dont think its needed (it was KB39 something)... however i still dont get why they didnt bump revision of that component to 7601.

i flagged it for TOTALY other reason.... if you install IE9 you get vb and jscript from IE9 versioned 9.2x so that update does not apply... btw all this updates released currently are officaly released a week or two before public release in "payed" support. You might not see KB article yet but it will come in a week or two.

Remember once you have installed Windows6.1-KB2477730-v2 and restarted, you can uninstall KB2465772 from the add/remove programmes. A restart won't be necessary since the files aren't loaded. If it does ask for a restart, it means the new update isn't installed or installed correctly.

Leaving superseded updates serves no purpose and only results in increase disk usage etc! Once there are a few updates that can be uninstalled, I'll post a SP1 version of the old update remover, but there's little point at the moment if there's only one to remove :)

Look, Ricktendo, the only reason I ever said anything to you is because you insult people by calling them cowards and f*-heads and what have you... at least one of which antics you've been reprimanded for (and your post deleted) by admin here. So my point was, if people are indeed worried about these updates, the ONLY reason I could see them being worried is if they would try to deploy them in a business environment, in which case I said, well, if their workstations are running ok, maybe they should leave these updates alone. That, however, does NOT give you a license to insult people that are evidently of finer quality than yourself.

However, personally, I have made at least 200 builds with integrated updates as released by SoLoR, of all flavor and architecture. Yesterday I made 2 other builds based on lite sp1 images with 150 apps each and fully regged, themed, and customized to my liking. So to call me faint-hearted with these updates shows your ignorance and arrogance yet again. So you want to take a jab at me, it's fine, but if you're so omniscient you wouldn't be waiting on SoLoR to check stuff out for you as to what is obsolete or not. So my advice to you is, don't be a coward and have something of substance to say next time. You sound like one of those people you meet in a convenience store and when you pass them they say, "Excuse me" but when they step into their cars they turn into cowardly monsters that will kill an old lady by cutting her off on the road. Usually people with big mouths on the internet are of that category. So again, my advice, really say something or just give it a rest already. No one is interested in what you have to say.

I installed it without any adverse effects...I think these types of updates should always be installed because they are "OS compatability" ....and so on; kind of one of those things M$ would have included in RTM if the architecture was available at the time and/or they were aware of it....Just my thoughts. :)
