Ooops .... I did not look close enough. Mentioned previously about this superseded update being re-offered.
GetPackages.cmd isn't updated, it just uses Microsoft dism to list the installed packages along with any supersedence info
I thought you were also using UpdateChecker.exe which is database related and gives you the latest on the status of your installed updates. No sure how reliable the state information is on supersedence from just using the packages.txt.
I just got the following fairly old KBs offered to me by WU. Looks like MSoft is messing with the meta data again. I don't have any of those KBs installed and I previously had KB2952664 (compatibility/telemetry) hidden. Also had an optional update offered for KB3080079. Need to check 32-bit if it happens there too. Anyone else? edit: Just checked and got the same offers minus kb2813347 on Win7 32-bit.
Similar: today Microsoft Update has offered the old Internet Explorer 11 KB3185319 (09/13/2016) don't installed in my machine. What happens?
Well aware of that, however this laptop has never been reinstalled or reset. I wanted to make sure I had the KB2952664 still hidden and found only the Dec an Jan updates. Clicked "Restore hidden updates" and it shows I have NO hidden updates. Go figure.
I have all the monthly updates installed until October. I'm now trying to install the final 3 updates (kb5020000, kb5021291, kb5022338) but I'm getting a message that WMI needs to be updated and a link to update it. I end up here but the update for 7 x64 is missing (well they're all missing but I only need that one). h**ps://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/an-update-that-prevents-a-0xc0000034-error-message-when-you-try-to-install-windows-7-sp1-windows-server-2008-r2-sp1-or-windows-embedded-standard-7-sp1-is-available-fac19599-d4c7-df14-e82f-4e523df219f5
FYI: If you hide the IE update, you will get a different IE update each time you hide the one that is offered. So I guess it's best to install the original IE offer.
You can use WUMT with "Include Superseded" checked, it will show all IE updates and can be hidden together
There is even a higher revision of 2023-01 CU for Windows 7 which was released but made expired soon after, in which case the official update remains the one released on 11/01/2023. I don't see the same for Windows 2008 R2 which largely confirms what you said.
