I agree with the thread maker. WMP B-L-O-W-S. I use GOM player, it rules and uses a hell of a lot less RAM. IE8? Umm... NO! I unchecked everything from WMP and disabled it. I just hid everything IE and made Firefox my default for everything. The Only thing I use from MS is just the basic OS. I turn off all the UAC and other garbage M$ installs. I have never needed anything without IE8 or Media Player 10-11-12. Why is "N" not recommended?? I don't get it.
Because we don't have any OEM SLP key to get it activated Since we can't activate it cleanly, then it might be better to install a regular edition and then disable the unwanted features.
Im sorry to say but this is not true! IE is also removed. While its true, there is Update that permanently adds IE back on N systems, by default it is removed same way as WMP I do not use activation hacks, but i also do not have legal version.Im one of those few who simply rearms and when time runs out, does a clean install to maintain optimum performance
Do you have an original and untouched ISO? Did you match the HASHES? Because Microsoft says clearly that only WMP is removed (see my previous links), so maybe you have a custom-made ISO? But maybe I'm wrong, it's difficult to know.. I'd have to verify that by myself...
N has IE, I installed it on Vmware. Trying to add ultimate Crypto keys to it so i can use Ultimate keys to activate it and vice Versa otherwise my N keys are worthless. I want to activate Ultimate with UltimateN keys.
Microsoft released a 'new' N version, N-1, that includes IE8.. The original N version was without both IE8 and WMP, but it got cancelled together with the E version. Just to add to the confusion they are all the same build though, 6.1.7600.16385.090713-1255. The N-1 is only visible in the name of the iso: 7600.16385.090713-1255_x64fre_clientn-1_en-us_Retail_UltimateN-GRMCNULXFRER_EN_DVD.iso
Thanks for this important info.I didnt know this Why add back IE? .Plain stupid imo... N-1 problably has the Ballot screen then?
you are PROBABLY wrong DataRight my friend installed the N-1 edition and he also did NOT have IE8. EDIT- did NOT have IE8.
I think the scenario is something like this: E version = without IE, with WMP. Will never reach the stores, there's not likely any OEM:SLP will leak. Original N version = without IE and WMP. Will never reach the stores (but any N-serial will work) New N-1 version = with IE, without WMP. Will reach the stores and the possibility of an OEM:SLP exists And yes, the new N-1 verison will probably have the ballot-screen.
Can anyone comfirm that the N-1 version comes witout IE8? as I said: my friend installed the N-1 (apparently) edition and it comes without IE8 unlike what you have said. DataRight sorry, TYPO, it comes witout IE8.
