George....one thing I don't like is having graphics built in to the processor. I liken that to having a sound module built into a processor, I never use them. It does not seem likely that Intel could compete with Nvidia or ATI for graphics reproduction, not in the same chip. I don't know why they would go that route. Next thing you know, they will have SATA controllers built in. You won't need a mobo, everything will be built in to the processor, memory and everything.
Same here, really useless when you use "External" GPU. This trend is crazy, less PCIx slots, less SATA ports, more build features..
Just a note: PCI and PCI Express (PCIe) are two completely different things. PCI is ancient, PCIe is current.
I should have been more specific, thanks for pointing that out. However, modern mobo manufacturers tend to omit the 'e' as well, referring to their ports only as PCI 1,4,or 16.. I guess it has to be understood that PCI now refers to PCI express.
I think the AMD platform is easier to adapt to the Win7 system compared to Intel. Firstly, the AMD platform has relatively complete drivers. The second point is that there is no difference in performance compared to the Win10/11 system. If Win7 is installed on the Intel 500/600 series platform, the single core turbo function will fail, and the scheduling of large and small cores is not ideal. These are the Windows 7 systems installed on my computer, and everything is running very well.
Carlos...I did not completely clue in to what you were saying. My Asus B360M has a PCI slot and it 'IS' a PCI slot. I presumed all slots on the mobo would be PCIe but no. They made a new mobo with an old PCI slot. I incorrectly presumed the newer B760 was using the same kind of old PCI slot and just found out my error when I tried to plug a PCI card into a PCIe slot. I bought a new Prime B760M-A D4. Fits nicely into my micro ATX form factor case and I got a new 850 watt Corsair RM850 to power it. Got an i5-13600KF that fits an LGA 1700 socket and ...good news for George...it comes "without" a built in video card. It's core speed is 2.6 Ghz and max boost of 3.9 Ghz. A quick look around indicates I can get a PCIe to PCI adapter, although it appears somewhat Mickey Mouse. It's late and I need time to digest this dilemma. I went for a DeepCool AG400 processor cooler as well and it was something to install. Asus leaves holes in the mobo to mount such a device but the directions are so terse as to be almost useless. It does not blow air directly onto the processor, it draws heat off it by conduction into a cooler than dissipates the heat by convection.
canon k...thanks for reply and advice. I'll get back to you,,,it's pretty late and I am not thinking clearly. Still have your USB mod running on my W7 on the B360M. Thanks again, for your support over the years on getting these OSs running.
That's why it is good to always use the accurate terms. The, usually white, legacy PCI slot is rare these days. People confusing PCI and PCIe, the latter being on all modern boards as graphics cards need it. And yes, still have old PCs with ISA, PCI and AGP slots. Everything except the exotic VESA Local (VL) ones.
I try to be accurate but this was a grey area for me. I was aware of the newer PCI conventions but had never looked closely at a PCI slot before, until tonight. You are right, one should never assume, better to verify first. Then again, never even dawned on my that an older PCI slot would be used on a newer mobo. Live and learn. Come to think of it, the guy who sold me the mobo did so based on my request that I needed a newer mobo that could run an older Soundlaster X-fi card.
@gordo999 I have worked last days on extender and seems like my changes were succesful as I have now ported acpitime.sys from Windows 8.0 build 6.2.9200.16384 which matches HWID *ACPI000E This means I have all drivers for Asus B360 Prime Plus for XP x86 and x64 which mean of these ported drivers could be used on Vista and 7 too if needed, but they need some touch. So no missing drivers in my Device manager in XP. Strage is I still can't hear sound from my monitor connected to GPU using HDMI. Will see what drivers will be installed on 7 asap...
Are you aware that in the crazy Nvidia world you may have to enable the HDMI audio from the Nvidia VIDEO control panel?
Thats why I need Windows 7 and it's own untouched driver. I have added 980 HWID to latest XP driver, I think I need to do same for sound INF file as I don't see any sound settings in NVIDIA Control panel.
Hello to All My 2nd post; ? Don't Know where to post this question about Windows 7 and Hard Disk Drive, Please move it if needed I thank You smart people for this site and Help you provide I Hope, bag someone help to Useless Incompetent wastin time reading thousand web pages without unswer and a failing memory with nothing to show for the time wasted I Have ben using Windows 7 x86-64 MBR based system on computers, About 2 Years ago reading on internet how good GPT was for large disk drivers I installed win. 7 x64 with UEFI GPT format on a new 1TB HDD, it works perfect, the drive Now is full, showing RED it has only 44.1 GB FREE space on it I need to free space backup When I started plugjng in my old win7 HDD x86, x64 with MBR format (20+ of hdd) to the NEW GPT disk I could reed copy files from them, BUT when I re-connected the HDD or kept the HDD connected for some days they became Unaccessible, corrupt, some RAW, some No data ask to format disk, even a new 4 TB HDD backup disk no windows intalled became RAW, It took me sometime to figurout WHY they wore becoming all corrupted Last February I purchased a TOSHIBA X300 4TB HDD The past 3/ 4 Monthes I have been traing to format this disk EXFAT to install windows 7 on it, and 4 partition for programs and file storage Wasted 3/ 4 months searching reading posts, many differeent programs falsely claime to format exfat, but not working, the last program I used is Gparted, and it sayes; "No partition table found on device /dev/sdb" Searching for unswers I come accross this post; "I have 2 hard drives, one is EXT4 and one is EXFAT. Both are 8TB, and both contain the same files. However, if I look at the amount of space being used in Gparted on Ubuntu, there is a big difference. EXT4: there is 154 GB free. EXFAT: there is 13 GB free." My Months search down the drain, wasted; exFAT waists toomuch space MY Question is ? I want to install Win 7 64 on a 4TB HDD 4 Partitiones MBR, NO GPT to tray to recover my old disk drivers corrupted by GPT, (DONT know how ?) Can someone expert Please advice tell me what format should I use for best results to install Win 7 x64 on the 4TB disk as MBR ? as it only work for 2TB disk Why ? GPT corrupted my old disk drivers and how to avoid it, how to recover the old HDD's I also purchased a 8TB hard disk drive last year to backup oll my disk drivers on it (I dont know how ?), What format to use? you can only copy one image per disk drive? This HDD I have NOT pluged it in yet I also have another computer (2 old desktop) with windows 10 installed that I upgraded from windows 7 when win 10 was launched I apologize for the wright up Thank You for helping Please help me to solve my problems if possible
