Hi, I'm new here. And I'm wondering, in wikipedia, it says that Windows 7 Home Premium can support only 1 CPU. I have 2 CPU and I want to install Windows 7 Home Premium. Does it affect my CPUs? Will it just use 1 CPU?
Only Ultimate and Enterprise support 2 Physical CPU's. This does not apply to Dual Core. Install Ultimate with OEM Key and your good to go.
It will never physically destroy or damage your CPU, it may only use 1 though. Personally I have 1 Physical CPU but 2 Logical ones and they are both running fine here on Win7 Professional. I would try other versions of Win7 besides Home Premium if this is a limitation dude. I am sure that the more advanced versions would support your CPU's. If I were you I would install Win7 Ultimate as a test and see if it is using Both CPU's. You can use that info if you want to buy a copy of Win7. That is what I would do. I can help you determine if both CPU's are working too dude. Give it a try and let me know.
Cores and physical cpus are completely different I have 8 cores but only 1 cpu only server motherboards have the capacity for a second cpu
Actually, I'm currently using Windows 7 Ultimate RC...It does detect and use 2 CPUs. BTW if you want to know what processor I'm using, it is AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology 1.80 Ghz. And this it what it says in DxDiag: Processor: AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-56 (2 CPUs), ~1.8GHz
I know dude but when you open your tower and see only 1 CPU there but windows sees more then one that means that you have Logical Processors. Cores and Logical Processors are the same thing mate. All that means is that you only have one chip but it works like you have more then one, that is the meaning of Logical Processors dude. That is all I am saying.
