This discussion is a completely nonsense, if you want jump the bridge then jumps! It is up to you.

It is a matter of choice, some want to install these updates, others not; each one takes his own decision and the consequences. Nobody have the right to change anybody thoughts.

If you want to install it, go ahead, if not, just pass away.

If the things goes wrong and you have spare time (I don't have this luxury) reinstall your system even if your HD blows up. Have fun!

If each one of those updates has a corresponding KB that you can read and if it is compatible with your system, go ahead.

What in the f**k are we talking about now?

First thing I learned about computers was RTFM. If you RTFM on everything you will be fine. In this case the equivalent of RTFM would be reading the KB article BEFORE installing ANY update.

As for analogies, I knew this guy in school who slept with every girl he could until he came down with the clap. Now do you understand why you shouldn't install every single update you run across? While not really a virus (in either case) a bad hotfix install can sure cause allot of problems.

Exactly! If you are not sick, why to take medicine?

You should not take medicine before reading the prescription, RTFM first.

That would imply you are already sick/have problem with computer, but lots of people are taking vitamins to strengthen immune system. Updates are exactly that :) Certain vitamins can also make certain people ill and not feel well (for example if they are alergic), same here, some updates might not work very well on certain computers. But for most of people vitamins are good for immune system, same with updates, they are good for most of computers ;) But lets stop with this analogies because everything can be presented in a way to prove a point and no matter whats the point.

Its not vitamins people are allergic too, its the other constituents in the food. Taking a vitamin pill isn't a substitute for eating the fresh fruit and vegetables as their are hundreds of phytochemicals and other beneficial micronutrients in them.

Basically any analogue you apply to this is going to be wrong in some form or another. What I can't understand is people essentially critisising others for wanting to install them. If you use the analogue 'if a friend jumped off a bridge would you', or other similar analogues would actually be contrary to the writers intentions, since in fact most people don't install these updates are rely solely on those through Windowsupdate.

Fact is, these are hotfixes. Hotfixes are for issues not relating to security, major performance, reliability, or caompatibility issues. Any security fixes that may appear in these packs is simply because Microsoft makes the fix then releases them only once a month on patch Tuesday, they may have been ready for a couple of weeks at least at that stage.

Microsoft does not release hotfixes simply due to the number of them, hence why they only release the more critical ones in the first place. Having so many updates doesn't mean its any worse than any other operating system, just that they fix any issues that may be present for those that are experiencing them. Naturally by the support for every piece of hardware and software out there small issues will arise, its not like Mac who only support one brand of stuff and their own software, any other issues is caused by the third party regardless of whether its the OS or not thats causing it!
