Difference with these hotfixes and Sp1 beta/RC etc, is that with these hotfixes you can install other hotfixes, even those that replace the same files (as long as the replacement ones are newer). With a RC/beta Sp1 installed, you cannot install any hotfixes or updates, even if the test period is many months. Microsoft may release a criticial security update if it possibly poses threats to other machines, or data loss scenerario's, other than that you're stumped.

Also, most of the hotfixes are last stage RC's, and usually go through unmoddified from experience.

This can be true, but if you compare files version inside updates you will get there is not diference with files version...

no, he has right, file version does not say much when one is unoffical and other one is offical. "offical" version gives you update to one more component then unoffical one.

    Unoffical from december:

    Windows-IE-PluggableHandlersAndSecurityZones - 8.0.7600.16490 / 8.0.7600.20600
    Windows-IE-ClientNetworkProtocolImplementation - 8.0.7600.16490 / 8.0.7600.20600
    Windows-IE-Feedsbs - 8.0.7600.16490 / 8.0.7600.20600
    Windows-IE-HTMLRendering - 8.0.7600.16490 / 8.0.7600.20600
    Windows-IE-IEProxy - 8.0.7600.16490 / 8.0.7600.20600
    Windows-ieframe - 8.0.7600.16490 / 8.0.7600.20600
