Alright, that makes sense. In the case of WZOR, however, I guess he deserves an element of trust, as all his leaks have been clean - right?

the SP1 wave0 64-bit is posted on usenet.
    search for WINDOWS.7.AND.SERVER.2008.R2.SERVICE.PACK-1.RTM.X64.WAVE0 name.
don't know if something else will be posted for the moment.
the usenet provider can block uploading that's why there's only this SP1 posted.
    others will probably post also.

I was just wandering; when M$ releases the Windows 7 SP1 integrated ISO's is it legal to download and install as long as you already own a legal copy of Windows 7, or, do you have to purchase it?

Its legal. you pay for the license, not the disk

Yes it is, I'm planning on doing so from MSDN myself when the time comes.
I think as long as it is the edition you bought?

Technically no, not from anywhere other than they sanction, but downloading it from torrent isn't gonna get you a visit from the feds. I'm waiting for the torrent release of the MSDN/TechNet ISOs as well. When they post it on MSDN/TechNet you can check it against their hash which you can see without a subscription.

How much difference is there between Microsoft Windows 7 SP1 integrated ISO's and installing a fresh windows 7 RTM and then SP1 RTM (.exe) ?

If you put it that way, that would be the most stable way w/o integrated ISO. You can uninstall SP1 that way and you have to run some command to reclaim space taken by SP1 (for uninstall). Of course with an integrated ISO you don't have to wait for SP1 to install after installing Windows 7 itself. I've used Windows XP with no issues that way (clean install Windows then service pack) but used clean install with Vista with integrated ISOs.

I've never upgraded to a service pack in an already broken in install. There are too many things that can go wrong there.

As I said if you're worried about malware from DLing an integrated ISO from torrent... when MS releases theirs for MSDN/TechNet you can check the sha1 sum without a subscription (sometimes just requires a free hotmail/live login) to make sure the ISO you got from torrent is legit. Wzor is usually the real deal, but any ISO I download is just a play toy until MS publishes theirs officially. I'm not gonna use homebrew/unknown integrations on a production machine.

Like What? 3rd-parties have habits of screwing with things they shouldn't because they think they are king of the world. I don't use a stripping utility. Probably the biggest issue with the registry, the installer isn't gonna account for millions of possibilities that 3rd-parties screwed up.

At worst I disable unnecessary services.

For instance, you may not be able to install SP1 if you have installed ATI Catalyst Control Center and ATI Catalyst Install Manager.

I have Catalyst Control Centre and Install Manager installed, no issues here. AMD (which bought ATI and have now converted the name of their products to AMD) release drivers on a monthly basis, and use the format yy.mm, such that the latest official released driver is 10.12, from December, 2010. Due to the time it takes for WHQL etc, there may be newer drivers known as 'hotfix' drivers, the currrent of which is 11.1a (version 8.82.2) which, although released earlier than the official 11.1 drivers which are due shortly are actually newer!

The blocking of SP1 could be caused by running an old driver version that may not have SP1 compatibility, the simple thing to do would be to update to 10.12, or to 11.1/11.1a. 11.1a also lists significant performance improvements, especially for 6xxx series cards,

What are you talking about dude? Applying SP's to an installed OS always falls short of being a science, who doesn't know that? You may not notice if you don't give a flip to having your OS set up the way you like it, like on some boring company workstation, but otherwise yes, much can mess you up. And I'm not talking about hacked resources or disabled services.

I see; what you all are saying basically is one must have a Technet suscription to be completely OK; is this correct? Finnally, what do you use for a product key in these downloaded ISO's and will they activate in the same fashion as the original purchased version. Thanks for all your help.
