Judging from your post I would say go for OEM. You'll need a valid licence key for retail version Cheers
Whichever. For the DVD ISO images, the only difference between a retail ISO and OEM ISO is the ei.cfg file (inside sources folder at root of dvd) [Channel] heading, which specifies either Retail or OEM channel.From the point of view of activation or functionality, theres no difference.
Thanks for all replies, So I guess the best way for activation for non-branded system is DAZ Loader...? Sorry for noob question and thanks ..
Daz loader is one of the most solid out there. However, there are other methods too like Timesurfers Rearm tool or KMS activation. Look around and use whatever you're most comfortable with.
For a noob, a bios hack may be difficult. Theres really no point when there are other excellent software tools available on this forum that can do the job. Also flashing with the wrong bios can brick his mobo.
Using the eicfg_removal_utility is way faster because the ISO does not need to be remastered as opposed to when deleting the file manually/renaming.
Actually as pointed out it does not matter if it's available or not.You can download Ultimate x64 and use the ei_cfg_remover on it.Then you will be presented with a choice during install what edition you want installed. With Vista there was a single x86 or x64 integrated iso.However starting with Win7 MS started with separate iso-s.Pointless if you ask me.They are 1:1 exept for the ei.cfg file.Just stupid bandwith wasting decision imo.
Wait a sec. We're all talking in the air right now, but if we were to believe that list, then Ultimate sp1 iso would be just that- ultimate index integrated with sp1, but not containing any other integrated images. In that case ei.cfg is immaterial because the iso contains only a single index. Am I reading it right?
@venu no. because there are clg files as well for other editions. en_windows_7_ultimate_x64_dvd_x15-65922.iso has the following: install_Windows 7 HOMEBASIC.clg install_Windows 7 HOMEPREMIUM.clg install_Windows 7 PROFESSIONAL.clg install_Windows 7 ULTIMATE.clg
I checked the following list of .dll's (and one .exe) to see if any of them changed to the 7601.17514 build number: dwm.exe spwizimg.dll imageres.dll uxtheme.dll uDWM.dll themeui.dll themeservice.dll Of these, only 1 has changed to a 7601.17514 build number, and hat file is: themeui.dll The rest are still the same as in Win7 RTM (7600.16385). So we need a new patched version of themeui.dll for inclusion in customized builds. The above was checked from a vanilla install of Win7 x64, I have not checked x86 Win7 but I'm thinking the results are going to be similar.
Yep that is why i checked to see of the version numbers had changed.Luckily it seems most are the same.I also found an updated user32.dll.mui(remove any watermarks) and authui.dll(Remove Ease of Access button from login screen)
