What happend to the extra micro$ software like security essentials and live essentials, they seem to have disapeared too from windows update. Can someone confirm this ?
Microsoft has not yet "activated" 7601 in their update system. Anything whose offering is keyed to a particular version or SKU of Windows will not show up in WU. That includes, among others, MSE, WLE, and .NET 4 (which was not included in SP1, BTW). Hardware updates (keyed to the presence of the hardware, not to a particular Windows), updates to software (e.g., Office updates are offered based on whether you have Office installed, not based on what Windows you have), etc., are unaffected. This also means that all Windows-specific updates and security fixes are unavailable at the moment. So those security patches that came out in January that post-date the SP1 build date? You won't get them until MSFT turns on SP1 in the update system. This is also why MSE is not offered, but definition updates to Defender and MSE are (because the MSE offering is keyed to your version of Windows, while the definition offerings are keyed to whether you have those installed). You can manually download and install MSE, WLE and .NET 4. As for security hotfixes, well, the January ones weren't that important (the most critical one being a browse-and-own RCE, but that is reasonably avoidable).

Hey guys, anyone have any ideas to why I cannot install this on my system? I get an error stating "Cannot find system files" or something like that. It worked on a VM Build of win7 though.
Did you install it from dvd sam? maybe a bad image burn, if so burn at slower speed with dvd-r, if usb maybe try copying the files over again..
Nah, actually it is just a 550 MB exe file that I used. According to MS it is usually because of V-Lite but I did not use that lol.
