Yeah this article had my attention during the research yesterday..the thing is that I don't wanna mess up and screw things up,so I'll probably have an expert to help me
Thanks, very informative, I had already read two of them. Is it necessary to have an RTM version? I have the original ISO of Windows 7 Ultimate and checked the hash with the one Microsoft gives in the site.
FWIW- BIOS mod is not 100% safe... a bad mod can brick your new MB- it has happened. MS Toolkit is 100% safe 100% of the time.
Yes, I know. The problem is that MS Toolkit doesn't activate the OS. It only extends the trial period for 180 days. I don't know, I'll think it when the time comes. I trust Tito.
You don't seem to understand kms activation very well. It is not really an extended trial. It is a volume activation that must be renewed every 180 days, both for windows and office. The intent is that businesses using this scheme would set up an in house server for their clients to activate against, and this by default would happen well before the expiration deadline. Clever people here and elsewhere have devised services that run on your own machine to achieve the activation, and renew automatically, so you never need to worry about it.
I trust him too- he's done BIOS mods for me in the past... but he doesn't have your motherboard to test the BIOS mod on- so if there's any mistake in the code... or if god forbid you get a power surge or some other session ending event during the flash procedure you just bricked your new MB. As Capt. Kirk mentioned above- MS Toolkit simply schedules an event (completely behind the scenes and without any user intervention) to renew the VL activation before the 180 day license period expires. You'll have to go the KMS route anyway once you upgrade to Win8/10 so there's really no reason to BIOS mod your MB for Win7 at this late date when MS Toolkit is 100% safe.
Ok, I'm going that way then. Thanks guys! But why are you mentioning the 'volume'? Do I have to use the VL version ?
You need to install Professional or Enterprise edition. Enterprise is volume only. Professional retail or volume is determine mainly by the key that is used, but I believe Pro-VL iso's would have the vl key already integrated.
I read in Microsoft's site that Enterprise can be rearmed up to 3 times. And since it activates every 180 days, we're talking about rearming, right? 1) Isn't that going to be a problem? 2) I've already downloaded Ultimate, can't I use MS toolkit for them? Why get Entreprise? 3) Is it possible to download Windows Enterprise?
He says that I have to use either Enterprise or Pro. I want to install Ultimate. Can I have an answer?
I think many people here install Ultimate without really needing it. If you REALLY NEED Ultimate, which I doubt, then use the bios mod option. And, once again, kms activation is not the same as extending the trial period by rearming. Edit: Also, you can use an iso editing program to remove the ei.cfg file from the sources folder of your Ultimate dvd or iso, and then install any edition other than Enterprise, which would be a separate download.
As CaptainKirk1966, says you have only one option that is bios mod if you want to install Ultimate in GPT partition.
In fact they're not going to benefit me more than Pro.. I guess you are right So, going with Pro and Toolkit and I am fine?
Yes, and see my note above regarding the ei.cfg file, remove it and you can install Professional without downloading a new iso.
