I'm already using newer version "sp50339.exe". But as you can see it does not have SLIC 2.1. Can't post link but you can google sp50339.exe.
Most likely sp50339.exe has a SLIC but unfortunately for you it is crippled/nulled as you are not entitled to upgrade your bios as you did not purchase your HP laptop with Windows, but linux. Anyway i think what NICK@NUMBER11 is trying to say is to flash SP44807.exe to enable SLIC, once done most likely you can upgrade with sp50339.exe only this time retaining SLIC.
To be 100% sure. what i would do is post a request to have you current version modifield, look at the stickies and post your details, very soon one of the bios modes will sort it for you and then all you have to do is is reapply the current bios version. That way youare sure its OK.
What brand of bios do I have? There is no topic for HP bioses in "BIOS Mod Requests. Post Requests Only" sub-forum. Thanks
You said your copy was activated with the blacklisted Lenovo key before you got the non-genuine message. This means that the required SLIC21 table must have come from a loader, since your BIOS doesnt have one and OEM activation doesnt work without one. The simplest solution, (since loaders obviously do work with your laptop), would therefore be to use a newer loader with HP Cert & Key and leave the hardware alone. Unless of course you prefer a permanent solution, in which case a BIOS Mod is the only way to go.
My copy was not activated. I installed W7 and disabled KB971033 in Windows Update. From then on I've pretty much forgotten about it, until today when notification about Windows not being genuine came. I did the same procedure (hide KB971033 update) on my home PC and have never received any notifications about windows validity. So this came as a shock to me.
I faced the very same situation with my laptop which was sold without Windows, thus missing SLIC table in BIOS. No success via loader, only solution to activate was BIOSmod which delivered the SLIC table and activated successfully. Till today I had no dropdown of activation. It's risky but once successfully flashed, chances to activate are very high.
Ok, now I have my Bios SLIC 2.1. Do I need to reinstall W7 and add 2.1 BIN to the image (not sure how atm) and then install certificate on clean W7? I tried to install certificate and W7 Ultimate key (valid) on current W7, but SLIC Toolkit still reports old certification. New certification name is: COMPAQHP-HPQOEM-2.1.xrm-ms, but as you'll see below toolkit still reports old one: (HPQOEM_V2.1_Cert.xrm-ms) It's says: Cert. Read OK ! ( HPQOEM_V2.1_Cert.xrm-ms ) From: C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform\tokens.dat Validation failed of course.
Thanks, that worked. No more nag screen at startup and "this copy of windows is not genuine". But, then I opened my IE8, went to microsoft.com/genuine to validate my windows and it's back to non-genuine.
