    Hold on, does that mean that the retail Win7 installation cannot be modded by the OEM/SLIC method?
    If that is not the case, what's the point of getting the OEM disk?

    standard NON ROYALTY OEM KEYS(u buy an oem disk) are activated exactly the same way retail keys are... online by ms activation server or by phone if he key has been used too many times or there is a significant hw upgrade.

    royality/slp keys( u buy new computer pre loaded with win7 from like dell asus, acer etc..) are self activated with the correct cert/slic 2.1 in bios and will activate an infinite number of machines.

    this pretty much the same activation as vista uses.

    IT IS DIFFERENT FROM WINDOWS XP!!

    most of technet and msdn keys ARE RETAI KEYS...
