I apologize in advance for any ignorance, noob here (please let me know if this belongs in another/new thread)...

I am considering installing Windows 7 Ultimate from this thread, but I have concerns about upgrading to Windows 8 after that.

I have no doubt this OS works well, but I eventually want to upgrade to Windows 8. If you have Windows 7, the official Windows 8 upgrade only costs $40. Will this version of 7 appear legitimate during the upgrade process?

Brief history of my system:
- When I bought my Dell Studio 1557, it came with Windows 7 Home Premium.
- About 6 months ago, I had malware issues, wiped the entire HD, and Windows 7 Ultimate that I downloaded from a torrent.
- I have since experienced some more issues, seemingly malware.
- No malware or antivirus scans seem to turn up everything, so I want to wipe the drive and start over again.

I never get why people always desire the versions which are deprecated 16 years after date.

 

I am a WinXP/Win7 enthusiast and I run these systems on much newer machines (also under UEFI). I'm using ported drivers and need a clean system without any updates to be sure that the driver works without any special OS features
