Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is Windows 7??? Is it a replacement for Vista??? Thanks in advance guys
When is it going to be released. Why have Microsoft chosen to bring out another version of windows when Vista is still relatively new?
Windows 7 (test builds) Windows 7 final release probably won't be until late 2010, however there is (Build 6801) which is a Pre-Beta of Windows 7 which was at the recent PDC conference and has been widely leaked via torrent over the net. Its a fine pre cursor to what will become Microsofts next OS, runs considerably faster than Vista, and for an early build has relatively few bugs. I have a test installation on my PC and its impressive to say the least. (Build 6801) to all intense and purposes is what Vista sould have been. It has a very attractive Desktop with a Glass 'SuperBar' as opposed to the horrible black Vista Taskbar. The speed of (Build 6801) is amazing being more like XP it is so responsive. Hope this helps. LUg.
Well said LUg - I think people will like Windows 7. I installed build 6801 w/o any issuesl, the 32 bit version anyway. It's all I use now. Fortunately my computer needs are simple, so I'm easily pleased.
Curious cat... @bchat, LUg or someone who knows... When it comes to prebeta/beta OSes, I am a complete newbie... hence: -What usually happens when the official release is there? -Do pre-beta/beta installers have to uninstall/reinstall OS? -Or, is it usually uncomplicated to update? (That you do not lose, 3rd party programs, what you have installed that far...) Quick try out, for those who virtualize, no big deal, quick install, test etc. But for a long time virtual install or conventional install on an empty partition - it is good to know forehand, what to expect down the road... (before investing too much time into a new OS) ...
We've all been there. You can continue to use the last beta or switch the the RTM (Release To Manufacture) version. Don't expect a free copy, not even if your an 'Offical Beta Tester' Some Beta's have 'un-install' options, as they have to be tested too. But you won't have one for a 'Operating System' Beta like Windows 7. Only for Beta's of 'Applications' 'Add-Ons', or 'Service Packs' With OS Beta's there will usually be an 'Upgrade' option, again that has to be tested too. (see #3 below about 3rd party programs) I tend to test on both 'Virtual' and 'Real' systems as you can hit problems on one that won't occur on the other. The most important things to remember about Beta Testing are: 1. Its Not Finished Yet 2. You Are The Guinea Pig who is testing this stuff, so Joe Public has something that 'Just Works'. 3. So you Should Never use it on a system where you can't afford to lose Everything. That means ALL your files, ALL your data, ALL your applications, and possibly even SOME of your Hardware. So, if you have some spare time, a spare PC, and like challenges. Go for it, it can be alot of fun.
Oh boy what a post! Dear ZaForD, It's been a long time since I had so many laughs out of a forum, if ever... First came -"The Guinea Pig", then -"possibly even SOME of your Hardware" and finally -"So, if you have some spare time, a spare PC, and like challenges. Go for it, it can be alot of fun. " Every line I just burst into laughter, I was just exploding, I wish you would have seen me... Finally my wife asked me: -"What's wrong with you?" ... ... PS. You deserved some Reputation and got it!!
Because, people who like a change deserve a choice, and the members of the windows development team deserve to be paid!
