Thats interesting, I've got no way for testing this. No second TV/monitor and no HDMI cable. I may pick a cheap one up to test it. Having said that I do believe the PC has crashed and locked up when it black screens. But I think I might test this out just to make sure. Thanks
No this isn't the problem I just checked to see if I could turn on and off numpad light or caps and no luck. The PC is 100% locked up
Maybe it's a corrupted ISO If you're installing an English language pack, I'd try downloading and installing an English ISO and see if that sorts it
ok, was just a thought because of your huge graphic card. It consumes a lot but honestly I did not expect you to save money on the power supply and build a nice rig with expensive parts
You upgrading 7 to 8.1 or doing fresh install of 8.1 directly? I'd go for fresh install and/or test RAM and so. are you overclocking? cheers
if you read the thread you see that fresh install also was done and RAM was tested. Overclocking was not discussed yet
Running out of ideas atm but question about bios: did you alter any settings during windows 7 time? Is your bios in default mode?
No I never touched Bio whist win7 was installed. I left it how the company who put it together left it. It's on default then and now. Whist i was testing boot options I would change one thing then put it back to default to keep track of changes. Yeah I ran out of ideas before I came here. Would getting hold of a copy of win8 then updating to win8.1 work? I'm really unsure to what the problem is, hardware or software I'm sorry I can't give you anymore info. I read it might be a SATA problem? or a UEFI problem. If it helps I could make a video of my bio setting and upload it to youtube?
Provided that everything appears kosher in safe mode, I would point the video card as the culprit. Just did a quick search and found 41 pages of similar complaints on MS Support site, and a majority of them mentions an nVidia video card. I don't know why as I also have an nVidia card (but it's 3 yrs. old) without any issues. If you can borrow a friend's video card for a quick test, that might at least identify the problem.
All the mofo I know in Japan have laptops. If only I were in the UK I could get hold of one right away. Any VERY cheap cards i could use that would work?
LOL...yeah any cheap card (as long as it's not too old so it's compatible with your motherboard). It's a pity since I have several video cards just laying around in my "other hardware" bin.
