Make sure you update your RealTek Audio driver to the latest version. :)

This looks like an issue with your Audiocard.
If you can, look in your BIOS and see if you can disable the Audio.
Remove any further hardware like USB devices.
    See if it helps.

Then / Otherwise you should find a way to force Windows to use newer drivers
than the ones that are already integrated. Without further research i'm not quite sure how to do that
if you don't get access to the former F8 safe-mode.

I've disabled USB Interface / Audio Card / Modem / Keyboard / Trackpad... just nothing happened. Same BSOD.

When i upgrade within Windows 8 OS, process is complete but when restarts, it gets me trough the same BSOD, revert back to Windows 8 and gives me the 0x101 - 0x20017 error saying "We couldn't install Windows 8.1"

Did you try to format again after disabling all these options? Just asking to be sure.
And disable the Audiocard only, in your BIOS (if possible), not in Windows.
If you don't have this option in your BIOS then you should stick with W8 until a fix comes up
    or upgrade your hardware.

All these were disabled in BIOS, one by one and then all of them. Nothing changed. Think i'll stick with W8 for now... hope there'll be a fix for this issue. I can't imagine that a computer that's running W8 smoothly isn't capable of running W8.1.

Be patient, Windows 8 wasn't very stable either, at least for me so i switched back to Windows 7 and after a while many bugs were fixed by updates.
With Startisback i didn't look back and now i'm using 8.1. - Luckily no problems so far but as the product isn't officially released there are no windowsupdates and i can assure you that Microsoft is working overtime to adress all known issues at the moment so that there will be a lot of fixes to download as soon as windowsupdate will get enabled. The problem for 8.1 is, that they are using different (newer, but not latest) driver branches which aren't that stable so if you got the chance to update a driver by yourself, you should do it.

I had a similar problem with an older Asus motherboard, After the BSOD I rebooted the install disk and clicked on the Repair Mode. Then I went into Advanced Options and then Startup options where I selected Debug Mode. This permitted Win 8.1 to load all the way.

I'm on the same boat. Neither the Preview, nor the RTM can be installed.
I have a Asus X50sl as well. o_O Thought GA would solve the problem.

I also could find a possible reason, if I force the installation with ImageX the BSOD error on boot is "DRIVER_VIOLATION" without further details.

In our case, I believe it's something related with the hardware, or a possible change on windows kernel. The OS doesn't even start to load.

Attach the minidump of the crash, we're not fortune tellers and cannot diagnose without evidence.
