They will show up in WindowsUpdate, that's it. those updates has no affect on the system, because all there components are already available in other/newer updates
Hotfix updates KB3018775 and KB3025087 do not install in either of my Windows 8.1 Pro x86 or Windows 8.1 (Core) x64 systems. I get a not applicable message. Even though the Microsoft Update Catalog and the Hotfix download link request page lists Windows 8.1 x86 and x64, the Microsoft Support Articles for these updates indicates they are for Windows Server 2012 R2 only. So, I think this means that these two hotfixes should not be integrated in Windows 8.1 images. Has anyone else tried to install the two hotfixes?
Those two are for (AD LDS), which is found in Pro and up, but the feature is disabled by default enable it, or use dism
No the msu size is big because it's not compressed at all the normal max-compressed msu would be around 73 MB
Thank you abbodi1406 for your assistance. To assist others: Shown below is the Control Panel: Windows Features to enable Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (AD LDS) to allow install of hotfix updates KB3018775 and KB3025087. To enable the feature using DISM, the feature name is "DirectoryServices-ADAM-Client". View attachment 33622
A-bit_Tinkerer: as an alternative to enabling that feature using DISM, I think Abbodi may have meant that you can install those two updates directly using DISM (without needing to enable the AD LS feature beforehand). Extract the .cab file from the .msu, then run: dism /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:Windows8.1-KB3018775-x64.cab Thank you for helping people here with the steps you listed above.
1. Because the whole product/package is english built-in even the en-us resources in hotfix rollups (KB3022667-v3 and KB3011110-v2) are simply null manifests (no binaries) 2. it's just an update for native images
Abbodi, I notice there is an error with update Windows8.1-KB3024680-v2-x64.msu. The file, when downloaded is the hotfix archive, and not the extracted .msu file. I would have sent you a private PM about it (since it's extremely easily fixed ), but I thought I'd mention it for the benefit of others. Once corrected, the file has to be manually deleted so WHDownloader can download it again. Alternatively people can just extract it themselves, either through 7-zip or renaming it .exe, running it, and replacing the archive with the extracted file.
Thanks for explanation, one more stupid question: Native images are WIMs for original US folks like Winnetou etc.? )
If one installs the 4.6 preview will it uninstall cleanly when removing it is necessary to roll back to 4.5 and install either a newer preview or heaven forbid the RTM does anyone know?
