It doesn't exist. wstorflt.inf_amd64_f88512f54f02b91c is there though, I guess it's time to build a new offline install image.
Is there an equivalent to Simplix pack or some tool to keep you updated but free from telemetry like that for 8.1?
Regarding the multiple .NET 4.7.1 updates offered in WU do you prefer to add/keep the security update (currently KB4055001) until the next security update, to satisfy WU or just keep the latest update, whether security or not, and ignore WU (the current WHD list) ?
KB4055001 is from KB4055266 (2018-01) There is a newer .NET rollup: KB4076494 which contains KB4054980 (2018-02). I tested this the other day. These three updates seemed to completely satisfy Windows Update for .NET 4.7.1 on Windows 8.1 Update 3 fresh install into a VM. KB4033369 from KB4033369 KB4054854 from KB4033369 KB4054980 from KB4076494 Remember to use the "antivirus registry edit" or Windows update gets all confused and won't see the latest 2018-02 update: Code: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\QualityCompat] "cadca5fe-87d3-4b96-b7fb-a231484277cc"=dword:00000000 I also wanted to thank you abbodi1406 for all of your great help on these forums. I've used a bunch of code snippets from many of the things you have posted over the years... It has helped immensely trying to figure out some of the Microsoft conventions.
Yes i know there are 3 rollups, but KB4055001 is the security one for me, all three are needed to silence WU
personally, I always install all the updates until WU is satisfied, no matter if the updates are really needed or not. -andy-
It seems you are correct! I looked at a VM which I had tested all updates a couple weeks ago after KB4076494 was released. Now KB4055266 2018-01 is required to satisfy Windows Update even though KB4076494 2018-02 is already installed. It wasn't like that when I first tested it. The latest rollup should be all that is needed because it should have all the previous security updates as well as the previous optional updates. But for some reason, Microsoft put it in the Optional category and now require both 2018-01 and 2018-02 Security and Quality Rollups. The term "Rollup" is losing its meaning! This is the kind of thing that makes Windows Update very confusing. I also tried installing KB4074807 (2018-02 Preview of Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 3.5, 4.5.2, 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, 4.7, 4.7.1) and after rebooting, Windows Update still required KB4055266. This means KB4055001 (part of KB4055266) will probably still be required next month to satisfy Windows Update for .NET 4.7.1. It probably makes sense to include KB4055001 in the Win 8.1 updates for WHDownloader because Microsoft seems to think there is something in it that is needed for .NET 4.7.1 to be fully updated.
I would say that it is always preferable to satisfy WU, even if strictly speaking, certain updates are not required and it is only Microsoft to blame for not implementing supersedence accurately. Satisfying WU avoid further confusion from less aware users of a solution.
In summary, in my tests the following updates are required to fully satisfy WU using WHD list: KB4055001 from KB4055266 KB4054980 from KB4076494 Still appears the KB3185319 (Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 8.1) because of Preview Monthly Quality Rollup but I chose not to install.
