That story was a hoax and is not true. Yes, Windows 8 sucks, but that particular story is not true. People have been saying this for more than 10 years. But it's not going to happen. Ever. YOU might switch to Linux but 99.99999999% of the people currently running Windows will not. There's a reason why 90% of the people in the world use Windows and 1% use Linux. No matter how much time you spend playing games, it's VERY unlikely that playing games is the ONLY thing you do on your computer. And that's the problem. Even if Valve and other companies get lots of games running on Linux, so what? What about all the other programs you use? Other than web browsers like Firefox and Chrome, most Windows programs are not available in a Linux version. So, instead, you have to find some crappy Linux program that sort of does what you want but isn't nearly as good as the Windows programs you have been using. What exactly is the point of that? Windows 8 sucks. In my opinion it is completely unusable crap. So I'll just keep using Windows 7 until Microsoft gets their act together and comes out with something better. That's the great thing about software. It never breaks or wears out. As long as I've got a Windows 7 installation disk I can continue using it forever. Until Microsoft pulls their head out of their butt and admits that Windows 8 is crap, Windows 7 will become the new XP and people will continue using for a VERY long time. And that's OK with me. Windows 7 is a good solid OS. It works well and does what I need.
I'm using 7179 as well. Separate issue, I had a bit of an issue installing not only DFX after a fresh install, but my TV tuner card drivers as well. Even though the device install service is supposed to be automatically triggered (and set as such in services) it didn't start, and as a result both installs failed. After manually starting this service both of those things installed and are working fine! It wasn't an issue with any other devices so is probably just in specific circumstances. If anyone has the issue where a device driver doesn't install and it should (or did under 8.1 RTM etc), then I suggest that is the first place to start . You can start the service manually through services console (run services.msc) and start 'Device Install Service' by right clicking then clicking start, or type net start deviceinstall from the command prompt. It won't stay active for long as it's a 'dynamic' service, so run the affected install straight away.
There are a lot of 'Windows orphans' right now. I'd love to move to a more recent Windows OS, but Windows 8.x does suck. I have tried so hard to like it. I know a lot of people are using it (even here, eek) but honestly, when you will look back when something better comes out (just hope it will) you will be thinking to yourself why you ever used Win8.x at all. Windows 7 really is better for every power user out there. There is nothing Win8.1 does better unless it's some easy to overcome thing like 'integrated USB3 drivers for installing'. Actual desktop usage, Win7 wins in every way. Then, MS talks about providing more custom options for the Start screen, etc., in later Win8 versions and what do they do? They force coloring of start tiles according to average/central icon color and they don't give the option to change all tiles into 1 color, making the Start screen look like vomit. It made the Start screen so much harder to use if you have a lot of tiles/programs on it because your eyes can't make out differences very easily when the tiles themselves are all different colors (making seeing difference between icons inside that much harder/slower). Wake up to the truth, Win8.x is an intermediate OS, it is a development stage like Vista -- it wasn't meant to be, but due to MS messing up it was and now it is again. Win8.x is NOT faster than Win7, it's a myth. The only good desktop OS that MS came out with since XP is Win7 -- it is the best desktop OS, YET they won't give it SP2. Think about it... their best OS, they won't give a service pack. So enjoy your capped powers in Win8.x and the huge updated ISO sizes and general crappy UI experience. To me, seeing all these power users use Win8.x, it just underlines the point that MS can do anything and people will just take it -- even power users! I don't believe in magic like that anymore There is nothing magically better (or even good) about Win8.x. It's just something people want to believe. Win7 is better. PERIOD.
I thought realtek was now mediatek? www(dot)mediatek(dot)com/en/downloads/?sort=date *edit* Sorry , that's ralink not realtek.... *edit*
I agree. I know HP has alot of ralink and realtek drivers that work for their machines. Probably true for alot of manufacturers.... That or I use drivermax
Hi guys I have windows 8.1 pro and i downloaded the updates with your greate prog "whd6.8" .. I installed all updates + leaked update 17031 ... Now I want to know is that it's right .. Thank you and sorry for my english View attachment 27488 View attachment 27489
No need of installing all updates even roll ups mentioned on above posts. Just do a clean install of Windows 8.1 RTM and then directly go for leaked 17031 updates! It's fine! Now, your HDD might be filled up with all of those old superseded updates. If you are interested in freeing up some spaces in your HDD, either go for a clean install one more time and follow as I said. Or run this below command, in Admin Command Prompt. Code: dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /resetbase
