@murphy78 if I'm going to use /resetbase then let's assume that KB123456 has been superseded and will replace by KB999888, so KB123456 will now be permanent and can't be remove
Oh I get it. You're just being obsessive about the updates presented on your system. Look, I know it's annoying seeing things you cannot remove, but that doesn't mean they're actually taking up much space. The vast majority of the backup information gets removed. All that is left is the registry and database stuff. It doesn't keep the spare copies of files. If it's a problem with KUC, then the designer of KUC should make an option to skip the permanent packages.
in this case, when you run /resetbase, the backup of KB123456 will be removed and KB999888 will become permanent. -andy-
is it a good aproach to use /resetbase after integrating updates to install.wim ? i know some updates bocks this, but some aren't. is it safe use after these non blocking updates?
There are very few updates that don't set the pending flag. If you want to find out which ones, point the packagepath at your msu/cab folder and use /preventpending Then when it's finished, do a /get-packages The ones that get installed are the ones that will be able to be /resetbase'd. Just know that it doesn't actually save you much space on an offline multi-index wim. I think it has something to do with the way they install the packages. There is either a date stamp, UID, or some combination of the two that makes it so resetbase'd images don't work for multi-index wims. If you're just doing it for a single index, have at it hoss. You won't save much space since all the larger updates use pending process, but you will save some. Of the current updates, you might save like 30-50mb.
I've tested a fully sysprepped image versus the the offline updated version and they seemed to take about the same amount of time. It's probably slower. I just think that it's not as bad as you'd think. If someone is really bored they can fire up a fixed-size disk on a vm and go nuts with a stop-watch. I personally haven't noticed much of a difference and I look at the setup screens more than most.
No i got the link of VS 2014 CTP2 web setup (vs_professional.exe) i don't think LPs had been released
