If you install them from Windows update the download size is misleading. If they are truly superseded, it will only download express updates. Express updates cannot be installed manually unless they had been previously installed, so they're not considered for the repository. I found this out the hard way after spending way too long trying to get it to work with the installer. It's why I haven't updated it recently, it was incredibly off-putting! I will release an updated installer sometime soon, there is another concept for finding and making a list of updates to install I want to sort out which will work well with the repository. There are also a couple of other things that I'll post beforehand, but I won't elude to what they are until they're finished .
In case anyone wonders what express updates are, they have the same filenames as the .msu installers, except with a '-express' suffix and are already in .cab format (.cab installer files for standalone updates are usally contained within the .msu container). The express updates do not have a payload, they are just the manifest components of the updates and as a result are considerably smaller than the full update. It's probably not a bad thing you cannot install it manually, since you only want to install them if you already have the superseding update installed. For the Office 2013 updates this month, I haven't forgotten them! It looked at one stage that there will be a hotfix release or two separate, but they haven't materialised. If this is still the case by tomorrow evening I'll upload the lists. Office 2013 updates seem to have gone from a majority of hotfix releases to just general release updates each month. The updates that are released as hotfixes, usually relatively concurrently with the general release updates are actually the same as the general release updates, even if they have a different KB number. It appears Microsoft are effectively pushing out cumulative hotfixes as general release updates for Office 2013, and for the most-part Windows 8.1. It makes you wonder what the cause of the issues with 'update 2' (now called August cumulative update) was, and whether this is related to pushing a limitedly tested hotfix as part of the cumulative package.
They are: one fix for the Office installer (regarding click 2 run installations), which hopefully will work as it will be untested (until someone tests it for me) added functionality to the VC++ installer (something very handy which I'll elaborate on when released) an installer for a third party 'thing' that some people will find very useful just a packaged simple, third party tool which is extremely useful, unlike the description I just gave for it I haven't elaborated on the last three as I haven't finished them (the last one is just a writeup of how to use it and what it does). The thanks for those will go to the original authors who are just enthusiasts and have provided the tools for free, I'll give them full credit when done! One of them was actually specifically written for me as a favour, under my alter-ego username on another forum.
For the sake of saving space when integrating updates to wim file, is there a way or method to identify an update branch, in this case I need to integrate only GDR updates cause I believe they will satisfy WU.
I think abbodi1406 said recently that there are no LDR updates except the ones associated with NET4+, at least for win8.x. I could be mis-interpreting it, but I don't believe that GDR versus LDR would solve the WU satisfy stuff.
All General and Security Updates have GDR branch (regardless if they have LDR too or not like .NET updates) hotfixes also have GDR branch, except .NET (4.5 and 3.5) hotfixes which are LDR only but WU does not offer hotfixes for WHDownloader repo, to match/satisfy WU you need updates in: Baseline, General, Security, Additional/NET35, Additional/CameraCodecPack and because the recent situation with 2975719, you will need those updates to satisfy WU which are not included in the list: 2918614, 2976897, 2978668, 2978742 (ProWMC only), 2965500 (companion with 2955164)
