I was MS products enthusiast since Windows 3.0 (or what was named) but now I droped legit Windows 8 and installed Kubuntu...And my upgrade key that I used for clean install W8 isn't good anymore;it gives me an error:''That is a upgrade key....'' Agree that MS wants just our money but I think this is too much from them;I won't buy Windows again!
Yeah they have been under the cosh from all quarters recently... What about this... LOL ...I mean like what 'user telemetry' did they use? - obviously none with 3rd party start menu)...how dumb do you have to be not to see the underlying meaning of start button..like uhmmm...must be they want a short-cut to the start screen...? yeah right!
Maybe this? [h=1]Microsoft Customer Experience Improvement Program[/h] How does CEIP work? When you choose to participate in the CEIP, your computer or device automatically sends information to Microsoft about how you use certain products. Information from your computer is combined with other CEIP data to help Microsoft solve problems and to improve the products and features customers use most often.
I even found services for CEIP. Task scheduler has tasks that send information And in Office they use CEIP as well.
when installing W8 or 8.1 you are asked in the very beginning of the setup (optional), if you like to share these data in order to help MS improving the software
...and what an improvement it's been...re-imagining to the max I'd say! so what's the intelligence behind it? - sure they got vast info from users navigation techniques but was it really so much trouble to open the charms bar and go to start from there? IMHO it had nothing to do with user telemetry - merely a means to appease the masses .. in their own inimitable way of course...
Since years MS is doing just that: capturing all kind of data from users of Windows OS's. That's noting new and known in the community since ages. So, what's the deal to come up every time again and again with the same s**t what's know well? Isn't it that many people like to complaining special those who also trying to get everything for 0 Bucks?! For those never something is good enough! Nothing against fundamental critics which is needed in all parts of human life and computers and their software just part of that.
Correct, but that is not the point. The point is M$ has information that users do not use the start button. So in earlier versions of Windows they noticed this behavior and in Windows 8 removed the button and menu. Now users in general click the easiest thing to get as quickly as they can to use what they want. Place a bunch of shortcuts on their desktop and never have to look for something, because its right in front of them, web browser and programs they use. Most of the general users of Windows will have CEIP enabled, and M$ is getting the information from those people who are clicking shortcuts!
Not totally. Spend a lot of time configure my Windows 8 Pro installation and have to say "can live with it" There are improvements and new features that let me use Windows 8 and not fall back to 7. However on my Windows 8.1 Preview installation (yes I use both) I found 8.1 is more of the same and not really a hand out to customers. Explorer copying and moving (especially zip files) take forever comparing to Total Commander. Windows Update Cleanup take forever as well. If you, for whatever reason, come to far to the right the charms bar pops up but if you need to change setting through the charms bar it sometimes take 3 attempts to let it appear, really annoying. Windows 8.1 had to be an O.S. that was more stable instead of more unstable features. Why not solve stability issues first, like "this program stopped working" or "this program is not responding" This happens in Vista, 7, 8 as well in 8.1 After its stable let it determine at boot if you are using a phone, tablet, touchscreen or DESKTOP. For such a big software company it has to be doable.
One mistake most you you doing is NOT to take in account that Windows 8.1 isn't in final stage yet and still a Beta, nothing more! We all know that those outcome could change with the final release! To be honest, I'd with Windows 8.1 Pro Preview less problems I had with Window XP, Vista, 7 and 8 on an similar stage just to take the last 11 years!
yep, some specialists remove the watermark and then they believe that they run a fully tested new windows
