wim files compress them by file only. So adding prowmc doesn't add as much to the iso as you'd think. Prolly adds only 50ish megabytes
I will try to install Win 8.1 Pro with the ISO "Windows 8 Pro VL", replacing the install.wim. I will tell you if it works.
but I won't be able to activate with my key? or will it matter just put key in and it should work? What I try to say is will it ask for key during install so I can use and activate with my win 8 key.
I had issues attempting to use 8.0 files on this. The only 8.0 files I was able to salvage was the en-us folder inside the sources\ directory The rest I simply replaced from the zh-cn leak yesterday and the boot.wim from the frankenbuild with a modified lang.ini so that it only asks for english I don't like it, but I had drivers-error when trying to use 8.0 boot wim
No. What you can try though, is Do a tokens backup of your prowmc system, then do a fresh install of prowmc and try to restore backup... see if it works.. If it doesn't work you'll have to wait till someone cracks kms v6 or try doing prowmc upgrade... though I still haven't tested upgrade... I'm still capturing indexes (it takes a while)
If you have legit keys, just install to Pro, then do the wmc upgrade... THen save your activation with tokens manager after that and you can restore on a fresh ProWMC later
You know, I wondered if capturing the mounted dir would work. Guess it does, trying this on my server now, let's see if I have the same luck.
I've been reading this thread for an hour or more, and have now joined MDL mainly to say murphy78, you're a bloody champion. I look forward to reading other posts from like minded intelligent people.
ummmm, I got the wim, power iso, etc what must I do now ? I read about Murphy's successfull attempt, but I still don't get it Could someone explain it to me, step by step
Murphy78, yes, the tools are small, JFX's tool is quite brilliant (it downloads just *parts* of an iso, how he does that is a mystery to me..). I have used it before (building Win8PESE), I just cannot test them in this particular scenario at this time). EDIT: JFX's tool is also quite safe, as it downloads the tools from the official iso.
Excelent reading... Wish i had more time to try it my self. Well, downloading both parts from Mega again, because i couldn't extract wim. Going to bed now... Thank you...
Honestly it's better to wait until ISOs are available for download. Not worth screwing with the WIM unless you know what you're doing.
I am now tring to capture the mounted install.wim (index 3) but its stuck on: Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool Version: 6.3.9431.0
