I and my mate we notice that the upgrade process will make windows slower and slower and then on the same computer we did a fresh install for win 8.1 and we can see a big difference in the performance, I guess the OP method is good for someone got genuine WMC key, as I wanted to do that but after the fresh install of windows 8.1 and the smooth performance I'd rather buy win 8.1 and install fresh add WMC after. thanks kelorgo for your dedication
nice its working. showed the windows 8.1 upgrade in store..thanks alot.. btw i installed my windows 8 using Windows_8_Pro_EN-US_x86.iso, activated using Windows 8 Permanent Activator [x264+64]-atik0786, but i just uninstalled the product key using microsoft toolkit and just activate again using slmgr -ipk and now im currently downloading the windows 8.1 pro with media center
there isn't a permanent activator for Windows 8.X , you system is frankenbuild. Try a sfc /scannow to repair the modified files
its just a filename, but thanks though.. my windows 8.1 pro wmc upgrade fail twice just restored to windows 8 pro wmc. can you help me with it
Hi, is the method only work for Windows 8.1 Pro w/WMC? 1. My brother bought a laptop from retail store w/pre-intsall windows 8 (core). Can I use OP post#1 to update to Windows 8.1 by first installing KB2871389 then update Windows 8.1 through Store app? 2. Or it has to be Windows 8 Pro w/MWC in order for this method to work? Thanks
WMC is only really needed if you plan on activating Windows with a WMC serial + tokens. Installing the KB2871389 update will allow anyone running Windows 8 Core and Pro to upgrade to 8.1 via the store. If you're talking about upgrading to 8.1 in order to activate your copy without ProWMC then that's a no go, though if already activated it will carry across the upgrade process.
Generic tokens + WMC key + Office 2013 phone activation As far as I know, it is possible to successfully restore activation of phone activated Win8.1 or Office 2013. Now lets say I install Win 8.1, replace tokens with generic ones and activate Win 8.1 with free WMC key and Office 2013 via phone. After that I backup my activation, reinstall Windows and restore activation. As I understand in this case Office remains activated, coz it was activated via phone, but Windows activation isn't restored, because it was online activation. So my question is this: if entering WMC key will activate Windows in this scenario, or Office phone activation changes tokens to much and WMC key won't be accepted?
Although both the Windows and Office activation information is stored in the same file, they are separate entities and don't affect each other. If the WMC was activated online, then I doubt that whatever you do with Office will affect the restorability of the activation backup.
So, in other words, if I've used generic tokens + WMC key to activate windows and phone method for Office, I can backup these tokens and activate Windows again with just WMC key after reinstall without losing Office activation?
My (3) WMC keys have been over-used according to MS. Any other WMC solutions being tossed around? XBMC is growing on me but it is limited.
Hi, Newbie here. Here is my case. I have installed Windows 8 Pro using the key ending J8CK4 and activated it later by phone activation with a mak key. Then added WMC feature using the WMC promo key from microsoft and that was a year ago. Recently, I have upgraded my Windows 8 Pro with WMC to Windows 8.1 Pro with WMC via Store. I used Advance Tokens Manager to back up the activation. By the way, I have a MS Pro Plus 2013 installed activated online. What I have noticed is that the procedure in this thread talks about a generic key used in getting the data.dat and the tokens.dat quoted below: "1) Install Windows 8 Pro using the Windows 8 Pro KMS client setup key (GVLK) ending J8CK4 2) KMS activate using Microsoft Toolkit 3) Use the "Add feature" function to upgrade to WMC, using the Pro WMC default key ending QGJXW" Now, the question is: What if I would like to have a clean install using a Windows 8.1 iso? Can I use my data.dat and tokens.dat to get activated again after fresh install provided that I first install Windows 8.1 Pro with default key and then add WMC using default key, then insert my data.dat and tokens.dat (note that I did not use a generic key as per instruction) and finally insert my own WMC from microsoft? My other concern is the other laptop that I previously used had a Windows 8 Pro with WMC installed and activated online solely via the WMC key using a Windows 8 Pro with WMC ISO. Installed it using a default WMC key and actvated it using the WMC key from Microsoft before microsoft block the exploit. The question is after Upgrading it into Windows 8.1 Pro with WMC can I get the data.dat and tokens.dat for future clean install activation?
Hi. Yes, because that way the procedure is universal, anyone can do it, you do not require any retail keys, and you can share the resulting files if you wish. You don't have to do it exactly like that though, if you already have a computer up and running activated in a different way. Yes, this is a perfectly good solution. Yes, this is also a good solution. Note that in both cases the tokens.dat/data.dat you get will not be generic (it has some personal info), so don't share it with others.
