You have activated too many times with that key. And I thin it's not need to stop SPPSVC to copy the files. It's needed only when replace the originals with the new ones. That's tested. I've already copied the data.dat and tokens.dat from my activated installations after ugrading - to preserve for future clean installs.
The WMC key you are trying to use was originally activated on a different PC. A WMC key can be used on one PC only, and can't be transferred to another one.
Followed step by step, after point 3)..system reboots automatically and the activation has gone.Tried several times under VM and without, have several partitions on the PC,could that be a reason?
But in this case i think it's possible to try the phone activation, simulating a change of hardware...someone tried that? And, another question..when you write "Upgrade to WMC using default key ending JK7QT" you mean ADD FEATURES TO WINDOWS -> ADD WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER -> INSERT CODE? Or it's enough Code: slmgr.vbs /ipk keyxxxxxxx-JK7QT ? Many thanks
Sorry, I will not add this disclaimer to the post. If anyone is surprised that after inserting a default product key their system becomes unactivated, then the post is not for them.
Kelorgo may i ask you to add a reminder between point 3) and 4) saying that the activation Win 8 Pro will be lost after adding the feature WMC.
Thank you again kelorgo for this thread. I have since revived activations on a few of my computers with WMC Keys following the procedure. I can confirm that the WMC Keys are not tied to the computer and you can transfer it to another computer and activate by phone. In my case what I have is only the hard disk which was activated from a previous system. Except for this hard disk which I have saved from a dead motherboard for a day like this , every other components are different. Even the motherboard was changed from Asus to Gigabyte. However, I am not sure yet if a new hard disk is used.
Legally: can't transfer WMC key. Practically: can't activate online, can activate over phone. It's always been this way, thanks for confirming it hasn't changed with 8.1.
Did follow the steps 1 to 5 exactly as mentioned above. At step 6, I used a .esd downloaded earlier "9600.16415.winblue_refresh.130928-2229_x64fre_client_professionalwmc_gdr_en-us-ir1_cpwmca_x64frer_en-us_esd_b......esd" and WindowsStoreSetupBox.exe using the following at elevated command prompt. WindowsStoreSetupBox.exe /ClassId bd02c22b-1edf-476f-ab78-a72bdada6a47 /SessionId 1 /ReportId {3AB7C5F3-D1B0-4899-8FDD-565910F4D2F7}.1 This process created a folder C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources with files install.esd, SetupCore.dll, SetupHost.exe, SetupMgr.dll, SetupUIMgr.dll, WinDlp.dll. Executing SetupHost.exe is not taking the upgrade process further. And reached a dead end. Any help. Thanks in advance.
Windows Store update files are not designed to be shared between computers. Just putting the .esd on a second computer and running Windows StoreSetupBox.exe is not enough. The computer doesn't have the required information in the registry. Just bite the bullet and upgrade through Store properly. After all, you only need to do it once.
Or like so of use others.... windows 8.1 ProWMC .iso install with GVLK Key (J8D3P), then use KMS VL ALL 602 and 45days Activated an it get updates also...
This is not the purpose of this thread. The whole point is to not use a 45-days KMS method when you can achieve permanent activation without it in many cases for WMC.
Ok, finnaly I've made a test. I've changed my HDD with a new one and I've decided to use a clean install with a modified WMC disc, in wich I've replaced the data.dat with the generic one created in VMware, before to unmount the image. I did't replace the tokens.dat, only data.dat. The result - it has activated with the WMC key with no issues.
Hi, Just wandering, Is it possible to upgrade an existing Windows 8.0 WMC activated, with a modified Windows 8.1 RTM iso WMC instead of upgrading from the store. Make a backup activation and then be able to do a clean install with backup activation. Thanks.
