They can try to control their support better by supporting systems built off their own builds instead of some other persons none official build. In a way, they are trying to protect their user base and help their support system at the same time. Custom iso's get DMCA requests really fast.
No, all custom made isos "can" contain malicious viruses et cetera. A clean iso from MS does not except the one which is on board automatically

It is totally irresponsible to bring any .iso or.exe file into your home network that has no way to hash check it .. The only way I would even consider doing it is in some test environment and even then it would have to be from someone who has a reputation as being trustworthy ..
