many many years ago I used to drive some US vehicles. Some had a little blue engine and some the big red. That's why I've put in this little puzzle since the Arabs should know that gag as a major gas provider

blue stands for x86
red stands for x64

both 8 cylinders but different headroom

 

Is this the Professional version?

These are multiple-edition ISOs, means Pro and Core. So yes, Professional is part ot them.

Hi, been getting an error when trying to install -
using a virtual machine to test first - when booting from the 8.1 with update 64 bit en-gb .iso I just get the blue windows logo on a black screen no loading seems to occur. I I left it for 30 mins still nothing.

When trying to load the iso from windows itself I get the windows 8 logo in the centre then nothing.
when I try it again I get an error that the setup could not start and that I should reboot.
Upon rebooting I get the same issue.
my retail windows 8 disc loads first time in the virtual machine and my windows itself with no issues.

Could the windows setup.exe on the windows 8.1 with update 64 bit .iso be faulty ?

 

Could be your iso is corrupt. Did you confirm SHA-1?

my SHA-1 is 1F18420D65956DFE56E2359DA71AB6C363146570 and the one from the msdn site is 8F79FEE28873541E769C540CADB22BE516120DB6 they differ
the one one page one is pro 64 bit en-gb the one on msdn is pro vl 64 bit en-gb

will just download 8.1 then do updates or maybe a multiple language version

One is multiple editions WITH update, the other is pro vl WITHOUT update.

Edit: Doesn't explain your trouble, though. Your image is still legit.

 

Bollocks I have extracted the .iso and mounted with daemon tools lite
it's odd it loads the disc with a percentage counter on the windows 8 logo then nothing.
I try it again and I get this error "Setup couldn't start properly. Please reboot your PC and try running Windows 8.1 Setup again."
haha I'll make a custom disc with the windows 8 setup.exe and the windows 8.1 update data not that it would work though.
I prefer to use en-gb discs/.iso's, guess I'll just downlaod win 8.1

Willing to bet that both "setup.exe" regardless of version and edition, at least from windows 8.0 onwards, will be identical as long as the architecture matches.
So for example,
setup.exe x64: SHA-1 68B5C6AB9FA1412A3A44086C2CB1A57A37D3417F
setup.exe x86: SHA-1 310731CE62E0FBD439B100BDC2303ED46147A140

Are you booting your system with a burnt disk, or are you running setup from within windows?

 

I have been using an .iso from within windows & virtual box just to see if it loads - it doesn't
My Windows 8 disc works within windows but I can't seem to get my win 8 disc to work in virtual box at all I just get the blue windows logo but no progress circle/dots.
So I have given up and will download MICROSOFT.WINDOWS.8.1.RTM.X64.UNITED.KINGDOM.DVD-WZT.iso via magnet link from the The Windows 8.1 (& related) Repository thread.
And I will use Winreducer to slipstream the updates use that to install 8.1 update 1
