As i suspected (but i was lazy and always forget to test ), new DISM from Technical Preview is capable of directly exporting ESD file to a new non-exist WIM Code: dism /Export-Image /SourceImageFile:install.esd /SourceIndex:4 /DestinationImageFile:install.wim /compress:max /CheckIntegrity however, it doesn't maintain the original modification date (like wimlib-imagex), but that's not a big deal
Hello there, I just joined. I came to this site from the eightforums.com site, but since I'm new, I'm not allowed to post links. If you want to see my thread there, go to the "Messed up recovery partitions" thread in the section Performance and Maintenance. I have a Win 8 x64 Single Language edition pre-installed OEM computer with UEFI firmware (BIOS). Right-clicking on Computer - Properties shows "Windows 8 Single Language". Running winver in command prompt shows "Windows 8 Version 6.2 (Build 9200). But is it Core or Professional? I probably have the en-us version, though Control Panel - Clock, Language, and Region - Language shows my language as "English (India)", maybe because I changed the time zone to India's? But I'll stick with en-us. In the first post of this thread, there are a lot of links for the version (x64 en-us) I'm looking for. The "Master Link (thanks to GezoeSloog)" directs me to the cloud.mail.ru site, which has these links: ir4_cpra_x64frer_en-us_esd_e439d943e32ee1499ecc57194af3bf7a28ef00e2.esd ir4_cpwmca_x64frer_en-us_esd_dbad5fcac8fbefe08c6344aaa37c174db8ab921.esd Below this, there's "Special Contribution by murphy78: IR4 en-US collection torrent" part; the torrent contains the following x64 files: 9600.17053.winblue_refresh.140923-1144_x64fre_client_coren_en-us-ir4_ccrna_x64frer_en-us_esd_8808c8e51dd888ec91eca0b2df832e52cc7a22f5.esd 9600.17053.winblue_refresh.140923-1144_x64fre_client_coresinglelanguage_en-us-ir4_csla_x64frer_en-us_esd_ab9313b305f5b0ecace0596ec245cee709e584ae.esd 9600.17053.winblue_refresh.140923-1144_x64fre_client_core_en-us-ir4_ccra_x64frer_en-us_esd_e9e190248098e09a62b1bbf86927e65778f158de.esd 9600.17053.winblue_refresh.140923-1144_x64fre_client_professionaln_en-us-ir4_cprna_x64frer_en-us_esd_c7cfc2b0425a7bf073c3a58cec6af1a409dc31c0.esd 9600.17053.winblue_refresh.140923-1144_x64fre_client_professionalwmc_en-us-ir4_cpwmca_x64frer_en-us_esd_dbad5fcac8fbefef08c6344aaa37c174db8ab921.esd 9600.17053.winblue_refresh.140923-1144_x64fre_client_professional_en-us-ir4_cpra_x64frer_en-us_esd_e439d943e32ee1499ecc57194af3bf7a28ef00e2.esd Below that, there's "Windows 8.1 Single Language ## Click Here for Links", which opens pastebin, which gives three sites to download the file: ir4_csla_x64frer_en-us_esd_ab9313b305f5b0ecace0596ec245cee709e584ae.esd I think I'm supposed to download the "_en-us_esd_ab931...", but I'd like to confirm it. Its 2.5 GBs, after all. Thanks.
I'll use the torrent link then. I've read forum threads on how to install Win 8.1 with a generic key first, then use the OEM Win 8 key I have, so that's not a problem at present. There are still certain things that I don't understand yet: I know how to format and install the OS in the old way, with one OS in one partition and another OS in another partition and then using this software called EasyBCD to decide which OS boots by default, but this is the first time I'm using a computer with UEFI and all these recovery partitions and stuff. I've written down my OEM key, and also backed up the activation with Advanced Tokens Manager, and before formatting and reinstalling Windows, I plan to first create a ghost image using DriveImageXML. If the installation fails for some reason, that would be a big problem because DriveImageXML needs a running OS to copy the ghost image to another partition. If anyone knows any other software that can be used to create a ghost image, and then copy the ghost image using a LiveCD in case of a non-booting computer, please do tell. The .esd files you've linked have particular words in the file name; one has cpra in its name, another has cpwmca, and the torrent one I'm going to use has csla. All these files contain the same data, don't they? Thanks for your reply. Edit: I'll check out the Anarethos Recovery Tool that you've linked to in the previous post.
Thanks for the quick reply Murphy78 So with IR4 I have to install other updates while with your monthly ISO I don't have to install them, right? If so, I like your ISO better. Btw, Is the IR4 build number the same as yours too? Thanks again
It depends what you mean by build number. If you mean the base version without updating? I don't know if there's a difference. If you were to install and update the IR4 esd, it would have the same file versions as a normal "with Update" iso installed and updated fully. This is because it uses things like ntoskrnl.exe file version to display the build number.
Hi I have just got my HP Laptop with as it seems is Win 8.1 Core , No installation dvd . So i have been reading most of the day about how to retrieve Activation from Bios , Downloaded appropriate ESD (9600.17050.winblue_refresh.140317-1640_x64fre_client_coresinglelanguage_en-us-ir3_csla_x64frer_en-us_esd) and run included decrypt v3.0 Problem is after choosing option 4 to make iso i ended up with a folder containing the installation files but not an ISO image so i do not know how to proceed from there Any help greatly appreciated Thanks
Hmm, in case it's Core you need, why you downloaded CoreSingleLanguage ? That won't work with a Core key.
Well i am so confused now I started d/l murphy78 ir4 torrent (h**p://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/53855-Windows-8-1-with-Update-ESDs-Repository/page61?p=963046#post963046) which one should i choose ??
Code: 9600.17053.winblue_refresh.140923-1144_x64fre_client_core_en-us-ir4_ccra_x64frer_en-us_esd_e9e190248098e09a62b1bbf86927e65778f158de.esd This one.
Then grab this one: Code: 9600.17053.winblue_refresh.140923-1144_x64fre_client_core_en-us-ir4_ccra_x64frer_en-us_esd_e9e190248098e09a62b1bbf86927e65778f158de.esd
Thanks to both of you but out curiosity what is the diferrence to that one ?? (9600.17053.winblue_refresh.140923-1144_x64fre_client_coren_en-us-ir4_ccrna_x64frer_enus_esd_8808c8e51dd888ec91eca0b2df832e52cc7a22f5.esd) Also should i expect the decrypt command to provide a single iso or a folder with files like extracted from an iso image??
This is Core N version, so different SKU with different keys (is for european countries although i never met it here). Unpack the decryption files to a folder and place the ESD there, then follow the steps in "--Usage--" spoiler.
I had windows 8.1 pro x64 with r3 ,i downloaded r4 esd and when i installed it i only have r3,what is the story,it says i have r3 on 8/27 at 1500 i should have r4 on 9/25
ir4 is just a tag for the released media since RTM it has nothing to do with kernel build tag (currently 9600.winblue_r3.140827-1500 included in KB2995388)
I have download the 9600.17053.winblue_refresh.140923-1144_x64fre_client_professionalwmc_en-us-ir4_cpwmca_x64frer_en-us_esd_dbad5fcac8fbefef08c6344aaa37c174db8ab921.esd and what should I do to use this in order to update in the store without needing to download again? Is that possible? Because whenever I try to update and the internet goes off it redownloads again. So in order to save time and bandwidth I would like to know if there is a way to use this esd file for that purpose.
You cannot, Store has separate session ids and authentication even for each upgrade attemp you can convert esd file to iso and do in-place upgrade
