Doing this repeatly might be a proper solution. In case of hardware change your right, but normally it isn´t every week, is it.
I just bought an upgrade license for W8 via Windows Upgrade Assistant and it automatically started downloading without asking for a target. I am running this from my Win7 system and now I'm worried that the upgrade assistant is going to start installing over my Win7 system. I was under the impression that you would get an iso which could be installed later. There is still about an hour left on the download, so I would appreciate it if someone that has gone through the steps could tell me what happens after the download. Will I be able to intervene?
Won't activate on fresh install. I got this promotion through my dad's PC as he doesn't want win8 and for $15 I went ahead and paid for it. I then taake my brand new 120GB ssd and proceed to install the new win8 pro x64 and when it boots it says invalid key. I am then taken to an activation page and it says I must install win7 first. I thought I read of people installing it fresh without issues. Will a different install disk bypass this, or will it pick up on it. I can definitely install win 7 first, but every version of windows that I've tried to update completely new versions in the past has always corrupted my installs. I've been able to do it through a fresh install, but existing version loaded with software have always failed in some fashion. Please tell me there is a work around. -=Mark=-
Read an article on CNet that "Microsoft closes Windows 8 upgrade offer loophole" asia . cnet . com /microsoft-closes-windows-8-upgrade-offer-loophole-62219290.htm
Well, they've really patched the loophole... Because I've just tried the second laptop, which should be legit too according to Microsoft (unless I've missed something... it was purchased two weeks ago and came with Windows 7) and after punching the product key (which I checked and triple checked) still said it wasn't eligible...
I bought the $14.99 Upgrade and one for $69.99. I bought them both over my Main-PC which was running Win-7-Ulti-SP1-x64 + DAZ. I did a clean install on my 2nd PC with the $14.99 key and everything went fine. Itried to re-use the $14.99 key on my Main-PC and could only use it to install Windows 8, but was not able activate it and bought then just a new key out of Windows 8. Now as I only wanted to test the first key on my 2nd PC, I would like to know how to de-activate the first key, that I'm able to use it for my Wife's Main-PC later on. Couldn't find really something via Google. I thought as I'm behind a router with the same public IP and the 2nd PC turned off, that M$ would maybe not "see" if the previous activated PC is still running or just getting a straight re-install. Did someone tried to de-activate a key to move it to another PC yet ?
Well, I got two keys for two laptops purchased at the end of July for 14.99 each and tried one more time asking me for Windows 7 key, I put it and it worked......here you go, one more code. I will try for second laptop with legit key I might get another one . I would say four legit Windows 8 Pro keys are enough.
activate the new installation by telephone, as the key is already in use (tell them ur mobo fried) they'll send u a new key and decommission the old one
