if someone has a additional promo key for the discount lying around would appreciate it! installed at home for my kids to use this computer, they are going to like it alot better I believe .. would be using for a friends computer so he can have a copy for his kiddos to use. it seems so much easier for the children to use now then the other , so thats the only upside, dont have a start button normal like now, but can add a app for that if i need it badly, but it looks pretty solid.. unlike most reviews i have read, first time actually being happy with a product, and the one most ppl complained about to boot! how odd!. but if anyone feels charitable, i know im a new user.. but hey! figured i would ask: go ahead and pm me a discount promo key and i will be greatly appreciative .
I never had any problem with activation on fresh HD/SSD This procedure I used to install many times on new HD or SSD, however I always used the ei.cfg trick, not sure if it does make any difference. ========================= Boot with USB or DVD Choose "Custom Install" Proceed installation up to where you choose partition then: Drive Options (advanced) Delete all partitions (if any) New, apply, ok; Now it will create 2 partitions, 1:system reserved and 2 Click on partition 2 and DELETE partition 2 Click on partition 1 and "extend" it to maximum or whatever you want DO NOT CLICK NEXT YET! Click on partition 1; Format partition 1! Now you are good to proceed and click next ========================= Hope it helps
Good to see helpful people on here! I used the same steps on my computer for me and the kids at home and it worked great, shouldnt have a hickup doing it this method.
Would be nice if someone could pm me a spare promotional code as I'm the slowest man in the world and of course I didn't catch this train
I also need a couple of promo codes please. Kindly PM it to me. I've been trying to enroll, but it's asking for a windows 7 code. I appreciate if any one can give me a couple of codes via PM please. Thank you!
so do the codes we already have still work or did they kill those as well?? and does anyone think they will kill the keys we got from this??
each code is valid once. As long as it has not been used to claim the promo, it's good... Unfortunately the promo codes posted here have all been used up...
i have a few i didnt use yet but i need them for family members so i can not give them away now that we can not get more. to those pm'ing asking for them i apologize but i can not give them away they are for my mom, sister, and aunt. i just was wondering if they will kill the unused codes given out previously without the win 7 lic key given somehow.
It's ok. No need to apologize .... I'm just curious as to why MS keeps on asking for a Win7 product key whenever I try to register for the promo... Did you do anything special for MS not to ask you to input any Win7 keys? I even tried Teamviewing my sisters PC with the same result... Perhaps it's the Google Voice number I use - but as far as I know, it should be a valid US number which I use everyday.... Registering in the US by the way....
the deal is over they stopped it. now it is required you have a valid win 7 key that is eligable for the upgrade. i have yet to find a way around it. they were notified by places like cnet and the loophole is now closed. i have some i got a couple days back which is why i was asking is those were still going to work or not now. i regret now not getting more than i did to hang onto for when i needed them.
Aha! So that's why! I only tried it a couple of days though. Then yesterday again. Same result. Now I know! Lucky you, you were able to get through... Yeah, you should be good with those promo codes... It's not your fault technically, so MS won't go after you hehe - Remember those leaked Dreamspark promo a couple of years back? The keys still works - albeit for older MS Office 2007 and Windows Vista, though
Its not always asking for a key. First I tried to get the promo off my android tablet and it asked for a key. I gave my genuine key I purchased 1-2 years ago and it said I wasn't eligible. Then what the heck, I tried from my freshly installed and inactivated windows 8 and guess what? It worked and they sent me an email with the link to the assessment tool and the code. Just to be sure I reinstalled windows 7 pro ran the tool and it took me to the 30$ purchase + code => 14.99! Everything worked as a charm. Note: My partitions were not made with windows! Hence there is no secret/recover/whatever 100mb partition and never was on my drive. Each windows install/reinstall was made on a clean formatted partition. Do not delete your partitions. Good luck!
Its not a OEM key you can tell by looking at your product ID after you active windows i run the OEM on my main PC and i used a upgrade key on 2 other PCs and none have the OEM in there IDs.
Be forwarned... When I went through the Promo code + Dl & $pay, I received a email w/ the key on it, it was also given to me in one of the steps before final completion of my order. I suspect if one uses someone elses Promo code the person who got it origonally will receive the key of the person that paid for it. Edit: It may also be from the Billing info which I used the same email addy.
I gave mine away and didn't receive any confirmation - they use the email that you complete in upgrade assistant
